It might dine with me today
and untimely take me away,
uninvited it might knock
on your doors tomorrow,
and arrive unannounced
in your living room,
a guest we all have to meet
yet its arrival unwelcome,
we might live our lives justly
helping others or extravagantly
yet its treatment is always the same,
young and old hearts
are dealt with equal harshness,
we only take hope
in that, it might relieve us
of our current burdens
and take us to a better space
a green and colourful place,
where we wish for joy and happiness
and hope we never have to meet
it’s darkness again.
