I saw you today

Standing by our favourite spot

With your best friends, June and May

As my gaze raced before yours

Your shadow swimming in the grass

My thumb, holding back the rose

Which I’d planned to give you in class

Before your afro fore-shadowed your nose

And you turned and walked away

In an unforgettable rehearse

Leaving your smiles, floating in the air

Inhaled towards, the heights my daydreams

Before the wind brushed my hair

And almost made my lungs go dim

Only for me to wake up on a chair

To the sight of you feeding me cream

Hence why tonight

I’ll call to wish you goodnight

Before I smile, close my eyes

And let my pillow witness my dreams of you
