I rolled my eyes there silently. I couldn’t stand the fact that they kept bringing up Kabelo. After the untimely death of Sipho, I ran into Kabelo at one of the charity events that I held in Sipho’s name for the opening of the new clinic he had in the works. Kabelo was the head neurosurgeon and came from a prominent family. When I first laid eyes on him, there was an instant attraction. When he approached me we hit it off well. He had a good sense of humour with the intelligence to go with it. Dating him was something new for me, because we took it slow. He met my family as I did his, and we even exchanged house keys. But that changed when I decided to go to his house to surprise him after a long shift. I had it all planned out. I was going to cook for my man and wrap myself in my new langerie for tender loving care.

Unlocking the door, I walked into his house to hear loud moans and groans. I was so pissed that I didn’t think twice before up the spiral staircase and busting the door open. But when I did I fell back on the floor. There on the bed was Kabelo with another man. Covering my mouth I rushed out of the room and threw up on floor, gagging for air. Kabelo rushed out of the room after me to explain, but to me there was nothing else to talk about. I gathered myself on the floor and rushed out of his house and never looked back. If only my family knew their beloved Kabelo was gay, they would die! I thought about that incident before my mother came of the kitchen, and announced that dinner was ready. Everybody got up and sat at the large dining room table and prepared to eat the wonderful meal my mother had put together. Even though I couldn’t stand my family, I sure missed eating good food like this. The table spread looked like a meal from a movie Soul Food, and trust me, I was to enjoy every spoonful. As we ate my younger sister and his boyfriend stood up and cleared their throats to grab everyone’s attention. “We would like to make an announcement,” they said in unison. Everyone stop eating and gave them their full attention.

“Vincent and I are getting married,” my sister shouted cheerfully as she showed of the engagement ring. Her ring was so big you could tell from my positionat the table that atleast ten carats. Everyone stood up and squealed in excitement and gushed over my sisters engagement ring. But I remained seated and continued to eat my food. I couldn’t care less that she was getting married to the minister’s son. But I put on a fake smile and told her congratulations. But as soon as that left my lips everyone’s head snapped in my direction. You would thought I had said to hell with their engagement out loud with the glares I was receiving.
