“Uzoyithola kanjani uhlele ekoneni” said Mandoza in his 1999 hit song. Enforcing hardwork and the act of doing it for yourself, not expecting anyone else to do it for you. If you want to change your life, you are responsible for that. You want to get a job, you get up , create a CV and apply. Mandoza was a force in his own right. His songs carried messages that were relevant and still is to our everyday life and the survival kit of purely being black and living in the township. I can imagine the sacrifices that the youth and adults of that particular time had made to make life worth-living now.

Generation Z is reaping the benefits. I do also think we’re just a generation filled with entitlement, have no idea of working hard to achieving something. The government is obliged to provide jobs, private companies must enable paying internships, “someone must come to rescue”. All these stupid illusions that defer the act of doing it for yourself. On the contrary side, there is a number of Gen-z entrepreneurs eating it and flourishing in this life. Education and independence is quite a fashionable thing, however, you find due to circumstancial factors, others aren’t able to accumulate as such. Poverty, economic-indifferences, life choices and better yet, different mindsets.

I’d like to oppose and go with my thesis because, it is utterly unfair to paint people with the same brush, as shown over the years our destinies are totally different. But that doesn’t mean not trying to alleviate the unwanted in your life, to lead a very satisfying life, to inspire and also become the best version of your life. Other than lazing around, complaining and hoping for the best. Act upon your dreams. Hence, uzoyithola kanjani uhlele ekoneni?( how will you get it, when you are sitting in the corner?)
