Who am I ?
My name is Lucia Khumalo, born in South Africa, North West in Mahikeng. I am currently 19 years old and I attend school in Letsatsing Science Secondary school.
I love spending most of my time on “Facebook” of course but also spend most of my time writing dramas short stories and poems. I would really love to be an author one day although that isn’t what I’m only interested in. I also put my interest in acting, or let me say dramatising ’cause I’m really good at it.
Young dreamers…
As we grow up we have big, unrealistic dreams. When I was fourteen, I wanted a car, a fancy house, I wanted a lot of businesses, you know to a point that I sometimes drafted business ideas. I dreamt of “going rich” with my little brothers. I told myself that I will never get restless until I get what I want. Guess what…I now realised that it wasn’t just hard but it was too unrealistic and the expectations we too unreal. Still, there are some people who I really need to thank or let me say it properly, I want to appreciate most of my primary school teachers, in public.
Inspired and motivated…
During my primary school period I was mostly self motivated, but again if it’s external motivation I had my people. Before I talk about my teachers let me talk a bit about this queen, my Mother. All loving mothers have the ability to correct their children if they do wrong things. This may be expressed by hitting them or softly talking to them but can you argue that isn’t it a way of showing love? If I start describing her good heart this booklet will be full.
My teachers…
Mr Dikgwamaje. This teacher is magnificent, you know actually, he is the one who made me have the love of being an actuarial scientist. I have not said a lot about my academic life but I can assure you every time I got into his Maths class I felt the motivation. I know someone reading this may simply relate to their favourite primary school teacher. He would first tell us that he spoke Mathematics and indeed he did, because he would teach Mathematics like a language not subject. It is sometimes very important to emphasize the attitude or mood teachers express when teaching, because its either the teacher teaches in a way that you fall in love with the subject or you totally hate the subject. I am naturally not a Mathematics person but I passed the “language” with distinctions.
Mrs Kettledas. This woman is top of the best, she is the best. She was my favourite teacher and guess what, she also taught me Mathematics. Mr Dikgwamaje taught me Mathematics but in grade 9 . I just wrote about him to show him my deepest appreciation. Mrs Kettledas was my original primary school teacher. The woman was very strict, I don’t want to lie but still she would give praises to those who seemed to be interested in her class. I hated Maths but whenever she asked me a question I would answer it correctly and she would really praise me, telling me how intelligent I am. She would tell me that, “boKhumalo, ha ke batle go le bona le reka matlalo a dikoko, I want to see you buying steak and ribs”. She would sometimes say “Nana, o itse gore o montle yang fa o smile’a”.
Mr Mpofu and Mrs Mashiane…These teachers were also very strict but again they would crack jokes during lessons. Mr Mpofu was very friendly and didn’t leave anyone out during lessons. I love him because he made the Life Skills lessons fun for everyone. Mrs Mashiane was similar to Mr Mpofu but again she had other unique features. She always loved to talk about how foreign children pass home languages more than the indigenous people. I don’t want to call it discrimination because it’s not discrimination. She would still motivate us to pass and if I say us, I mean all of us .
To all my other teachers…
May God bless all of my primary school teachers, especially those I didn’t mention. I also say your work is seen and sincerely appreciated.
To all the teachers around the world…
Love and care is what you teachers express. You are our parents, school parents and you play an important role in our growing up. We really love you, our teachers.
That’s me, my story and by the way I will be back with more drama and novel series I just recently drafted. Love you… Bye.
