There are two major things that empathy provides us with, and which every other benefit is derived from. The first is connection.

As human beings all we want is to be acknowledged, at the very least. We are social beings . And when we acknowledge one another, we automatically connect in some other way or other.

The second thing empathy provides us with is understanding. Once we acknowledge and connect with another human being, we learn about them and learn from them.

We can’t help but learn, simply by virtue of our experience of them and our brain’s needs to process what it experiences. This put us at a great advantage, since understanding leads to successful interaction.

When we sincerely empathize, we effectively see someone for who they are, what affects them, what moves them, and what drives them.

Once we learn that we can relate to others, that we share motivation, we start to see others differently. And if we are sincere, we naturally start to treat them with compassion and consideration.

When we make decisions from a position of understanding, we make really decisive decisions that benefit all involved as far as possible.

When we understand we are able to consider thoroughly. We cannot consider or make provision for what or who we do not understand.

When we demonstrate consideration for others, at least most of the time, it leads to us deepening our connections. This at least applies to everyone we already have a connection with.

However, ideally and if we are sincere and keep at it, we can often even forge really strong connections with those we are not fond of. Either perspectives change, or a healthy dose of respect is developed.

The funny thing about understanding is that in our lifetime there is simply not enough time to come to understand all there is to be understood.

So if we make it a lifelong mission to always seek understanding, we will always deepen our understanding of those around us. Empathy never stops adding to our understanding of others.

When we are sincere in our empathy and seek an understanding of those around us, we often unlock opportunities where there are none to begin with.

When we make others feel acknowledged and appreciated, we can often see a side to them that most others simply don’t and unlock opportunities unavailable to most others.

If it can unlock closed doors, then it is safe to say it can help us obtain favour from those around us. Since favour does nothing but helps us on our way, it is welcome in a career context.

And once we obtain favour, we are naturally returned the empathy of those we empathize with, which fuels our openness to showing empathy.

If those around us are not naturally empathetic, we can literally change the way they see the world around them by sincerely and persistently being empathetic.

Many people have challenged the negative worldviews of others by simply caring and considering ceaselessly.

Empathy is the basic of everything positive we direct at others. If we had none , we would constantly step on everyone’s toes and feel no remorse.

When we feel empathy for those around us or if we consider them as human beings like ourselves, we simply treat them much better and do what is best for them.

So in our careers, this translates into obtaining favour and succeeding in all regards.
