(Nandi, Sihle, and Nolwazi are at Sihle’s place drinking wine and celebrating their win)

Nandi: I’m telling you friend he looked so small in front of Zibulo. (laughing)

Nolwazi: I know Zibulo and putting people in their place.

Nandi: He looked so blown by this new look. He wasn’t sure if was me or not.

Nolwazi: Didn’t I tell you that this look will sweep him off his feet?

Nandi: You said it, my friend.

Nolwazi: And someone was against the makeover.

Sihle: (Chuckles)

Nandi: No please don’t start, I know that laugh.

(Nandi’s phone beeps numerous times. She takes it out)

Nandi: So many notifications! (Reads the messages) Congratulations?

Nolwazi: Who is saying congratulations?

Nandi: A lot of people are congratulating me. I don’t know what they are congratulating me for.

(Sihle and Nolwazi take out their phones)

Nandi: (Reads) “Congratulations on your engagement” (She jumps) Engagement! What engagement?

Nolwazi: (Shocked) Senzo posted a picture of himself kneeling in front of a lady who only showed a hand with a ring. So, I guess people think that the girl is you since the upper body of the lady is not shown in the picture.

Nandi: (Gasping for air) Can I see the picture? (Snatches Nolwazi’s phone) No, it’s not what I think it is. (Puts her hands on top of her head with her eyes and mouth wide open).

Sihle: (Pats Nandi’s shoulder) I’m sorry, friend.

Nolwazi: (Claps her hands in disbelief)

Nandi: (Screams) Why? Why? Why me? Why does this keep on happening to me? (Takes the whole bottle of wine and gulps it).

Sihle: (Taking the bottle from her) That’s enough now, friend!

Nandi: (Crying) You know what’s more painful? That ring! That is the same ring he said it’s his friend’s. (Cries louder) He made a fool out of me!

(Sihle and Nolwazi brushing and patting her back to calm her down)

Nandi: He used to say marriage is overrated and he is not in a hurry to get married. In just 2 weeks of breaking up, he has proposed to someone else! (She shakes her head while crying)

Sihle gives her a glass of water and a tissue.

Nandi: (Tries to stand up but falls) I am going to my house now.

Sihle: No you are not going anywhere, you can’t even stand properly.

Nandi: (Trying to stand) I want to go, my daughter is waiting for me.

Sihle: You are sleeping over today, Nolwazi will bring your daughter here. I’ll take care of you tonight.

Nolwazi: I won’t be able to fetch her, I have to be somewhere. I’ll ask Zibulo to fetch her though.

(Nolwazi stands up to leave)

Nolwazi: I’ll see you guys, take care.

****

It’s the next morning Nandi and Buhle are still at Sihle’s house. They are preparing to leave.

Sihle: You know you can stay over until you feel better right?

Nandi: Yes, friend I know, but we have to go. Thank you very much.

Sihle: Okay then take care of yourself and the little one.

Nandi: Don’t worry friend we will be fine.

Sihle: All right, I will come tomorrow after work to check up on you.

(They hug)

Nandi is on her phone typing a message for Senzo. The message reads like: “Since you showed us that you are better off without us, come and say your last goodbyes to your daughter at least. If you want to see your daughter for the last time, you’ll come to the local dam. We are going to rest in peace, and we will never bother you again. Enjoy your life with your wife”.

Nandi: (She switches off her phone) Buhle, my baby.

Buhle: Yes Mommy.

Nandi: Do you want to play a game with Mommy?

Buhle: Yes Mommy.

Nandi: So, we are going to the big swimming pool, we will be playing with water.

Buhle: (With excitement) Really Mom!

Nandi: Yes, also you will have to cry.

Buhle:(The smile fades) But I don’t feel like crying.

Nandi: You are not crying; you play like you are crying.

Buhle is looking down hesitating.

Nandi: You want your dad to come home again, right?

(Buhle nods)

Nandi: You have to play the game with me then.

Buhle: (Smiling) Okay Mommy let’s go play.
