Sihle and Nolwazi: (knocking)

Sihle: Is this girl still sleeping?

(Knocking vigorously)

Sihle: Knock-knock

Nandi: (Opens the door) You almost broke my door.

Sihle: We’ve been knocking for ages girl!

Nolwazi: You are still in your pajamas! At this time of the day!

Nandi: I’m tired, guys!

Nolwazi: You must take off your pajamas now, ma’am, we are having an indoor picnic.

Nandi: Picnic? (Yawning) You guys can do it, I am going to sleep.

Sihle: That won’t happen, my dear, you’ll be joining us.

Nandi: (Sighs) Okay!

Sihle: Perfect, go freshen up and we will be setting up in the meantime.

****
(They are sitting down on the floor feeding each other strawberries)

Nolwazi: I can’t believe we are all single to the point where we must feed ourselves strawberries.

(They all laugh)

Nolwazi: The only wedding we thought we were going to attend didn’t even happen.

(Nandi looks down feeling embarrassed)

Nolwazi: No, I didn’t mean it in a bad way. I was just joking. Is it still early to joke about it?

Sihle: Yes, it is very early. Nandi hasn’t fully accepted it.

Nandi: Yes, I am still processing it. I feel like he will come back and tell me that he is joking.

Nolwazi: You can still get him back if you want to, you know that right?

Nandi: How because he made it clear that it’s over.

Nolwazi: You must fight for what you want. In life, you don’t get anything easily you have to fight.

Sihle: You are giving her the wrong advice though, friend. You are telling her to force herself on Senzo? I think the best thing that Nandi can do is, rebuild her life.

Nolwazi: Rebuild her life how?

Sihle: Maybe she can go back to university and complete her medical degree. (Shrugs her shoulders) or something else. She can’t just sit here and constantly keep feeling sorry for herself.

Nolwazi: That won’t work, you haven’t thought about the responsibilities that come with that. Who is going to pay for the university fees? Her dad? You make it look easy, but it’s not.

Sihle: What do you suggest then (rolling her eyes) Mrs. Know-it-all?

Nolwazi: Nandi still loves Senzo, even a blind man can see that Nandi is not going to move on anytime soon. So instead of trying to ‘focus on herself’ just to be distracted, she must do what her heart wants, which is to get Senzo back. She must fight for her relationship, in relationships we fight!

Sihle: Nandi has been fighting and has sacrificed a lot for this relationship. She gave up her dream of becoming a doctor because… (gives Nandi the side eye) ‘Senzo prefers a woman that stays at home and allows the man take care of her’. Her father disowned her because of Senzo! Isn’t that enough loss? What else is left to sacrifice now? Herself? Her daughter?

Nolwazi: No Sihle you… (Nandi cuts in)

Nandi: Stop it now guys, you are arguing over nothing. You are talking about me as if I am not here.

(They are both quiet)

Nandi: I like that you guys care about me, thank you. I hear both sides of the argument. I think I agree more with Nolwazi.

(Nolwazi smiles and nods)

Nandi: I will be lying if I act like I moved on. I am nothing without Senzo, as you said I have already sacrificed a lot for this guy. My career, my dreams, my family, and more. It won’t hurt to sacrifice a little more.

Sihle: (Claps her hands in disbelief)

Nolwazi: Say no more friend, let’s get to it. I’ll help you get the man back.

Sihle: I’m listening.

Nolwazi: (Sitting up straight) Okay! The first step, we must give you a makeover.

Nandi: A makeover?

Nolwazi: Yes sweetheart, you will have to change your dressing style, apply makeup, and try new hairstyles.

Nandi: How will that help? I love the way I dress.

Nolwazi: It’s not about what you like now. Getting a makeover will remind him that you are still gorgeous, and he will remember what attracted him.

Nandi: (smiling) Oh, I get it.

Sihle: If Senzo loves you though, he has to be attracted to you without having to have a makeover.

Nolwazi: Oh, Sihle please, stop being a party pooper.

Nandi: I’m okay with getting a makeover.

Nolwazi: The second step, you’ll have to get a boyfriend.

Nandi: What are you saying now? Why do I need another boyfriend?

Nolwazi: I’m not yet done, you ‘ll have to get a boyfriend. A fake one. We will use the fake boyfriend to make Senzo jealous.

Nandi: (Smiles)

Nolwazi: Senzo will think you have moved on and you have replaced him with someone else. Then he will see this guy as competition, and he will want to win the competition so he will ask you to take him back.

Nandi: I always knew you were smart.

Nolwazi: Let’s get to work then, go get your bag we are going to the mall. In the meantime I’ll ask my cousin brother Zibulo to act as the fake boyfriend, I’m sure he won’t mind.

Nandi: (Hugs her) What would I be without my friend?

Sihle: (Clears her throat)

Nandi: (Patting Sihle’s shoulder) I also appreciate you too, friend.
