(Nandi is in her apartment, she is sitting at the decorated table and constantly checking the time on her phone)
(There’s a knock. The door slowly opens)
Nandi:(She quickly stands up and walks towards the door) Surprise!
Senzo:(Surprised)
Nandi:(Opening her arms) Welcome back!
Senzo:(Looking around the dim room) And then? Roses, champagne, candles…what’s the occasion?
Nandi:(The smile fades) Are you serious?
Senzo: Am I forgetting something?
Nandi goes back to her seat.
Senzo:(Looks around the room and reads the balloons) Is it our anniversary?
Nandi: (Gives him the ugly look) You forgot again?
Senzo: (Laughing nervously) Of course not.
Nandi: You are lying. I bet you don’t know what year we are in.
Senzo: I do, we are in our 4th year.
Nandi side-eyes him.
Senzo: Third?
Nandi: (Stands up and blows off the candles) Can you please switch on the light?
Senzo: Why are you blowing off the candles now?
Nandi: The party is over.
Senzo:(Pulling a chair and sitting) Forgive me for forgetting our anniversary, I thought it was next week.
Nandi: Every year you always “think it’s next week”.
Senzo: I’m very busy Nandi, I am working for you and Buhle. I understand it’s not easy to get it because you never worked in your life.
Nandi: Oh really?
Senzo: I didn’t mean that way, all I am trying to say is that you don’t understand me.
Nandi: I do try to understand you, but it seems as if the more I understand you the more I am losing you. Things are changing between us, day by day things are getting worse.
Senzo: What are you saying? Are you saying I am overwhelming you and you need a break?
Nandi: No, I didn’t say I need a break, I just want you to change the way you do things recently.
Senzo: I will try.
Nandi: Thank you. (Smiles) Now can I get my present?
Senzo: What present?
Nandi: The one in your closet.
Senzo:(Looking confused)
Nandi: Let me get it for you (Pulls out the chair and goes to the bathroom)
(She comes back holding a small box in her hand)
Senzo’s eyes widen.
Nandi: Ta-da!
Senzo: (Clears his throat) Oh that!
Nandi: (Smiling) Yes this.
Senzo: (Gently takes the ring from Nandi’s hand) This doesn’t belong to you; it doesn’t belong to me either.
Nandi: (Laughs in disbelief) What?
Senzo: Yes, this is my friend’s ring.
Nandi: Then what is it doing in our closet?
Senzo: He asked me to buy it and hide the ring for him.
Nandi: Why didn’t he buy it himself?
Senzo: If you stayed away from my belongings, you wouldn’t be playing detective now.
Nandi: Your stuff? We are a couple, so your things are mine.
Senzo: We are not married; my things are mine and that’s it.
(He opens the main door and goes outside)
