Minutes after the horsemen had gone I heard the roar of two motorbikes and I watched them winding up the tight bends.
Before I knew it the two machines were passing me, their drivers offering me a wave that sort gave a message “howzit you’re one of us, just you have no engine”.
When I reached a picnic spot on the other side of the waterfall Dries, Dirk and Danie who were two brothers and a brother-in-law, were waiting for me.
“Grab a sandwich. How about a piece of boerewors … and here’s a Coke.” Wow! All I’d eaten all day had been two energy bars and Ntate Makhoabenyane’s peaches. This felt like a feast!
The three guys were on an adventure through Lesotho and had dreams of one day doing a similar ride up to Angola.
After a few more bends I reached the top of the pass.
I felt on top of the world!
A little shepherd’s hut sat on top of the pass. It could have passed for a little fort from where some army guarded the Moteng Pass.
The only “soldier” in sight was a shepherd’s dog, not standing guard but lying down and enjoying the high altitude sunshine that the angry clouds let through every so often.
