Brothers Marco and Alfie go on a train trip with their father, Maxwell, who battles alcoholism. Always on edge, careful not to upset him, the boys are grateful for his unusually cheerful temperament and spend the journey enjoying the change of scenery. The trip gives them a bittersweet glimpse of how different life could be were it not for Maxwell’s life for the bottle. Their relationship is not without its petty sibling rivalries, yet the Trans Karoo trip allows them to strengthen their bond as brothers and create fond memories to see them through.
