It was two o’clock on Monday afternoon. Dima bathed more than she had ever done before. She wore a tight, sky-blue dress that revealed the beauty of her body. She did her eyebrows, braided her hair, anointed herself with ointments, and smelt good. Dima was beautiful, and her clothes looked good on her. She intended to make Thabo dizzy so that when he saw her, he would get confused and reveal the secret.
She found Thabo with all the other Stanamo members practising outside his house. Amongst them was a guy who was teaching them Pantsula dance moves, looking like the choreographer of the Stanamo group.
When Monnapule saw Dima, he immediately ran towards the radio and switched it off.
“Thabo, what’s wrong, man? Why do you invite your girlfriend to come and watch us while we are practising?” Monnapule said. Thabo could not utter a word when he saw Dima’s beauty. He felt dizzy with emotion.
“Dima, my love, how are you?” said Thabo with a smile. “Let’s get in the house, please, my love.”
Monnapule went crazy when he saw Thabo acting as if he was love drunk. “Hei you, Thabo, can’t you see that we are training here? Tell your girlfriend to leave before she steals our dance moves.”
Thabo requested five minutes to accompany Dima. When they were on the way, Dima started digging for answers from Thabo about their group’s dance and the competition, something unusual. Thabo started worrying.
“Why are you asking me so many questions about the group? Why not speak about us, my love? What’s going on?”
“No… thing…it’s… it’s just that… I…” Dima stuttered.
Thabo let go of her hand and asked, “Dimakatso, love of my life, are you trying to trick me into selling out my group? You show up bathed and smelling good, yet you are a snake who is here to betray me.”
Dima was speechless. “Forgive me, my love,” she wailed. It wasn’t my intention; it’s not me…. They said we were doing this so that we could win the money.”
Thabo sighed, disappointed.
“Do you think our love is worth a million rands, Dima? There is no money that can buy love; I really love you without any pretence. Go back to your friends and tell them that you are a stupid girl who played with love. It’s over between us, Dima.”
“You’re not going anywhere before we fix things between us. You know very well that I’m not a liar, that’s why I failed to betray you. I will do anything to fix things.” Dima said, grabbing Thabo by his clothes.
Thabo begged her to leave the group because her friends were evil. Dima tried to explain that they were desperate because they did not have a choreographer, and they had only six days left before the semi-finals. Thabo refused because he was deeply hurt.
“I think we should separate for the two weeks of the competition. I don’t trust you anymore. We will only speak through our phones if I can get a chance,” Thabo turned and left.
Dima cried on her way back to her group. When she arrived, they flocked to her, asking her many questions. She could not speak. She thought she had let the group down because the plan did not work.
“Don’t worry, choma. We’re the ones who should ask for your forgiveness for this bad plan of betraying your boyfriend. We’re very sorry,” Pinky hugged her.
“Pinky is right; we shouldn’t have used your relationship to steal the Stanamos’ dance moves. Finding out about Mr Kippie’s death confused us. I think we should use the internet to research Kofifi dance,” said Lumka, taking out her phone.
They all agreed that they would rehearse and watch the internet recordings of Kofifi.
How did Thabo feel when he realised that Dima wanted to betray him? Which phrase shows that he felt that way?
