The sunset of purple and green and maroon clouds signals a late afternoon at Lagoon Beach. At the busy embarkment a group of people are starting to depart to their homes after a day spent at the beach.
Slowly but surely it becomes quiet, and only one remaining car is parked on the road next to the palm trees and the beach sand.
In the car are two people looking at the ocean and listening to the music. As the hip-hop song plays, Lwandle and Sibongise are reminincing about the day that they had. They were at the movies to watch Mission Impossible, and afterwards went to the carnival theme park and then finally went to Mc Donald’s for cheeseburgers. Now they are sitting and are relaxing in the car.
As the two are watching the wavy ocean and the Travis Scott song is about to end, Sibongise dials down the volume of the radio and then stretches his arm out to embrace Lwandle.
“Hey Lwandle.”
“Hey.”
“I’m having a great day with you.”
“Really?! Thanks.”
“I thought you were the uptight type of a person. Like you up to your books and no one else. I’m really impressed.”
“Uptight?! Really impressed?! Lol, that what you thought about me?”
“Hey!.. Like I said, I thought about you earlier on. Now I see you differently.”
“Good or the bad?”
“Uhmm.” Lwandle giggles.
Sibongile says, “I see the good in you, the best of you.”
“Do you say that to all the girls?”
“Not even one. It is the first time with you.”
“Please, man…” Lwandle rolls her eyes but she smiles afterwards.
“Yeh…” says Sibongise, “I am really telling you the truth.”
Lwandle turns her head and watches the ocean. She feels Sibongile’s arm around her waist. She is unsure – she knows where this is likely to end…
She quickly reaches into her H&M jacket’s pocket and grabs her phone and pretends that someone is calling her. “I have to take this,” she says.
Sibongile removes his hand. “Okay that’s fine,” he says.
“I have to step out for a while but I will be right back.” Lwandle steps outside the vehicle, zips up her jacket and starts walking towards the ocean.
