Sonke Gender Justice Network works with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. It focuses on addressing the specific gender and HIV vulnerabilities of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants by challenging xenophobia and the frequent violations of rights faced by refugees and migrants.

It also advocates for access to vital health and social services by providing you with the knowledge, skills and motivation needed to reduce (exposure) vulnerabilities to HIV, and improve your access to health services such as Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) and Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART).

Sonke assists service providers to address attitudinal and organisational issues that prevent migrants, refugees and asylum seekers from accessing social assistance services
The organization also provides training and technical assistance to refugee-serving organisations to enable them to include male involvement through activities that change their knowledge, attitude and behaviour. The aim is to decrease violence against women and the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS, as well as to increase constructive male involvement in HIV and AIDS related prevention, care and support activities.

Currently Sonke implements the Refugee Health and Rights Programme in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Paarl in South Africa. Its services include:

Referral services in accessing social service, vital health service, counseling and advice on how to apply for refugee permits; and
Peer education training on human rights and sexual reproductive health.
