When Sfiso got off the train, he headed straight to the police station. There was also a line-up of stores and burger joints. Just before he got in, he received a call from an unknown number.

“Yes,” he answered.

“You can run all you like but you’ll never hide from me.”

It was Skhanyiso. He was in a dark room with just one small little window looking through it smoking a cigar.

Sfiso didn’t say anything. He was still in shock.

“Skha, listen to me,” Sfiso finally spoke.

“No you listen you piece of shit!” Skhanyiso voice laced with hatred.

“You’ll pay for what you did to my little sister,” Skhanyiso hung up.

Sfiso stood for nearly ten minutes not knowing what to do. He balled his fist and murmured, “Fuck” in a very inaudible way.

He got inside the police station and there were two policeman that were sitting behind a counter. One with a cap and the other with a hat.

He smiled at them.

“I’d like to see Captain Miller please.”

Their faces stayed blank. Their eyes gave him a professional survey.

“Is he expecting you, sir?” one with the cap asked him.

“No. But please tell him it’s Sfiso Mahlangu.”

The policeman pursed his lips and picked up the phone.

“There’s a gentleman here for you, Sir.”

He kept looking at him.

“What’s it’s all about, sir?” the policeman asked.

“It’s about the assassin he’s looking for.”

The policeman spoke into the phone again, then put it down.

“Please wait there,” he pointed to the waiting room on the left of the counter.

Sfiso nodded, smiled and left.

The room had an uncomfortable look, like a railway waiting room.

On the bench opposite Sfiso was a black family, a fat woman with two small boys.
Sfiso grinned and winkled at the boys, but their mother frowned and glared at him. It was obvious that she didn’t want her kids communicating with a sort of man who found himself in the police station. He couldn’t blame her.

Through the glass he saw Miller from behind the counter and the police spoke to him and pointed him in Sfiso’s direction. He gave him a little wave. Miller came towards him.
Sfiso got up and they met in the doorway of the waiting room.

“What do you want?” Miller’s voice was aggressive.

He told him he saw him on the news about the assassin and he’s got information about him. They went to his office.

“Well, if it isn’t the murderer of his girlfriend. You got good news for me? You got out early, you deserved to rot in jail,” Miller said while they sat down.

“Look, the assassin is out to kill me. It’s Noxolo’s older brother,” said Sfiso.

“What?” Miller was taken by a surprise.

Sfiso then told him about the incident that occurred a day before and on his release day.

Sfiso wanted protection from the police and the only way they can catch Skhanyiso, is with the help of Sfiso.

“Fine, come with me,” said Miller while they got up, left the police station and got into Miller’s car and drove off.

Miller took Sfiso to a police safe house with police officers surrounding it.

“If he comes here, we’ll catch him,” said Miller.

They got inside the house and he showed Sfiso around. He told him to call him if he suspects anything suspicious.

When Sfiso was left alone he couldn’t stop thinking that the police won’t stop Skhanyiso from killing him.

The only way to deal with this is to find the real killer of Noxolo – that’s the only way to have peace of mind.
