Cindy walked into my office with a red eye that was visible through the glasses she had on.

“Good morning Cindy, what happened to your eye?” I asked with concern.

“I developed an allergy overnight… it’s nothing,” she said placing some files on my table.

“Oh,” I said, scrutinising her right eye again.

It was obvious that there was trouble in paradise, but I wondered who did the punching; my husband or her official boyfriend Neil. Cindy wasn’t going to share that with me because of the affair she was having with Tony. Instead of feeling excited that karma was getting back at her, I felt pity.

That day I felt like preparing pap for Aunty Namhla when I got home. I just wanted her to take a break while I have a talk with her. She was great company and her words comforted me. To my surprise, Tony’s car was parked in the garage. I walked upstairs and found him playing with Tasha on our bed.

“Hi honey. Hope you had a good day at work,” he greeted me cheerfully.

“My day was awesome, thanks. You’re home early today,” I said, lifting Tasha in the air.

“I just want to spend time with you guys. I miss you,” he said.

I didn’t respond for I knew he was lying. I went to shower before going downstairs to join Aunty Namhla

The following morning when I woke up, I felt the great need to tell Tony that I was tired of this loveless marriage. Our marriage had died a year ago, and holding on to a rope that was already loose was useless. I was still young with a bright future ahead of me. I also wanted to experience real love. Waking up from my bed and looking at myself in the mirror, I was determined to break the news today.

Tony came back from the bathroom to change into his silver suit.

“I want a divorce,” I said firmly.

“What did you just say?” he asked, raising his voice.

“I want a divorce!” I spoke on top of my voice.

“You can leave, but know that Tasha won’t go with you, she’s mine.”

He took his briefcase and banged the door on his way out. Fighting for my child’s custody would be a mission worth taking. I texted Danie to break the news to him and a few minutes later he texted back.

I’m sending my driver to pick you up. I want to take you to Kirstenbosch Garden.

That’s exactly what I needed; seeing the beautiful nature.

“Aunty Namhla, I’m going out and will be back in the afternoon,” I said, grabbing my wallet on the counter.

Danie’s car was parked outside and he was driving. My heart was filled with joy when I saw him. He got out of the car, kissed me on the cheek and opened the door for me.

“Thank you for coming,” I said as tears started flowing down the contours of my eyes.

“Don’t cry honey, we are together in this,” Danie said, wiping away my tears with his own hands, before handing me a tissue.

I cried for a while as he was driving, until we got to the garden. I couldn’t hold it together. We walked to a thick bark that was on the green lawn where we sat.

“I love you Monica and will always do. I can’t promise you that our life will be perfect, but I promise to love you and Tasha. Will you marry me?” he said, kneeling down and taking out a diamond ring.

I was really shocked and at the same time happy.

“Oh yes! I will,” I said happily hugging him.

I was over the moon and everything at that moment was magical. He removed Tony’s ring and put his on my finger. It looked perfect!
