She left to go back home. She got on the bus and it sped off. I was consumed by dust from the dusty roads of Lime Hill. I thought, there goes my other half, the one who keeps me awake at night. I loved her more than my mind let on. 50km was the distance that stood between us. But it was just a phone call away. I couldn’t wait to hear her voice again.

The phone rang. It was 22h00 at night.

I picked up. “Hey, are you good?”

“Yeah, I’m good, I arrived safely at home, I just miss you though.”

“I miss you more. I have been thinking about you a lot but then you had to go have those dreams of happiness. Who do you stay with there?”

“I stay with my mother, father, sister and brother.” She said.

“Wow, that’s a nice little family love. Mine is 5×yours, we are that many.”

“You don’t get bored ….”

“I do get bored, even though the days are not the same. In some cases, when I miss my father, I would sit alone in my own space, thinking I am at my worst and that’s when I usually prefer to be alone.”

“Sorry to hear that baby.”

“Let’s not talk about it and ruin our chat. I want to know everything about you”

“We will talk later neh,” she said.

Oh lord, I love this girl! I must have done something right in this lifetime, I thought.

But there it was. I was the middle of the night and she still hadn’t called yet. The thought of going to sleep crossed my mind. I threw some blankets on top of the bed. I took off the clothes I was wearing and put on my sleeping clothes. Right there, when I was about to go to sleep I got a terrific text of love. It said, “I wish you a wonderful night, Mr Khanyi, and I love you. I wish you to have more time with you.”
