“I got pushed down the stairs the other night when I heard noises in the kitchen, I didn’t feel any presence but I heard her laugh. That is the reason why I have a bandage on my leg, it broke.” She said rubbing the bandaged leg up and down.

“Who was it?” I asked, my voice trembling.

“It was a ghost, though I couldn’t feel it’s presence I felt its manifestation in the house because it was cold. There are many restless souls, Sara.”

I didn’t understand why she told me that but now I knew that ghosts manifest themselves.

“Miss Emily, I came here today to finish what I have started and I want to know what is it that I must do to take Valerie out of our lives?”

“Indeed you are ready Sara, for this is not for the faint hearted.” She said.

“What is it that I must do?”

“There is a link between Valeria and Sophie, there is no Valeria without Sophie. You need to find Sophie’s dead body and burn it, Valerie is weak without the body. You need to speak to the body before burning it and tell the demon to burn with it and never return. You will need to say a prayer on the body before burning it and whilst burning it. And when all is done your mother and grandmother will see the light and they will crossover.”

“And where will I find the body?”

“At the very same cemetery your grandma got buried at.”

She took out a dirty paper in her pocket and handed it to me.

“This was for your mother but since you are the one to do this it is now, it’s yours. Find a grave with that name. The grave is isolated from other graves. Dig it, you will find the body because she was thrown into it not buried. If you leave now you will arrive there exactly at night time. Good luck Sara!”

I had never seen a dead body before but I guess there is always a first time for everything. The thought of burning it terrified me but going to a cemetery at night terrified me more. I was overcoming fears and at the same time doing what was right. I had my mother in my thoughts on my way to the cemetery, reminding myself of the reason why I was doing this. If not for her I would have made a U-turn and said, “To hell with this.”

I got lost a couple of times which made my chances of getting there early slim because it was already night time. At exactly 23:30 I parked the car outside the cemetery, took out a spade and petrol in the boot and started walking inside. It was cold and dark at the cemetery. There weren’t any street lights so I used my phone’s torch to read the names written on the graves.

At a far distance were trees and rocks, I think, because I couldn’t see clearly. I walked towards the trees, they were isolated from the other graves. I found one huge rock, on it was written the name that I had on the paper I was given. I took a deep breath and started digging.
