“I never had a chance to see you during the week. It has been crazy without you at the office.”
Mmhmmm! That little bitch was trying to steal my spotlight.
“No, it’s okay, I understand, and I trust you to keep the ship running while I’m away. In fact, why don’t you hop in and fill me in on what has been going on at the office. I could use a little distraction.”
Can you imagine how annoyed I was to hear him say that? I mean we were having some quality time and he had to invite his P.A. to take a drive home with us and the little skank didn’t even have the decency to decline! Which part of ‘three is a crowd’ didn’t these people understand?
Our ride back home was so irritating, annoying and disgusting all at the same time. In fact, I was up to here with that girl! I started getting why Lulama always complained about her. She kept on touching his hands in a way I couldn’t understand. If that girl thought I went through all that trouble for her to steal my man, she had another think coming. You know what? My mind was made up! That Palesa girl had to go, for good!
I couldn’t wait to get out of the car until the tramp gave out very valuable information.
“When I received the sad news about Thateho, I was not in great condition myself. I had ordered cupcakes and specifically told them they must not have any trace of nuts on them, but one bite of that cupcake, my face was all swollen up. It was as if God was giving me a sign that something, somewhere was not okay…”
Mhm! What was so special about her to be getting signs from God when things didn’t go well? Finally, the driver opened the passenger doors and I was free from all her pretentious acts. I could see right through her. That girl had it in for Katlego. Little did she know, she still had a long way to go.
The house was packed with so many people. They really came out in numbers to offer their support. What I liked about our visitors was that they were all extremely nice to me, it was as if Thateho was my own child. Who knows… if her father could have just followed his heart and dropped that witch right after getting intimate with me, we would all have been one happy family. Either way, there were still many, many more babies to come. The name Thateho would soon be gone and forgotten.
I knew that the only way to get more attention, especially from Katlego, was to submit to my bedroom and complain of a headache. A minute after I comfortably snuggled between the sheets, Katlego’s mother appeared in the bedroom with a tray of food and orange juice. What really worried me was the fact that she was not alone. She was accompanied by the man Katlego had a meeting with the other day.
“Mantoa, I know you are hurting ngwanaka, fela o swanetse o he.”
“I’m sorry mama. I don’t feel hungry, but thanks, I will try to eat later.”
“Okay nnake, ke tla beya tray ye gona mo, o seke wa dumela Lekgowa le le go hlaba ka dipotsisho tse o sa Di kweshisheng, ebile ke bona gole bohlokwa gore ke bitse Katlego.” She placed the tray on the side board, eyeing the man with suspicion before leaving.
“She doesn’t like me much, does she?” he asked in a cocky voice.
“No, I don’t think she does and I don’t either. The last time I saw you, I think you called me names. Suddenly you want to see me?”
“Trust me, if it were up to me, you would be behind bars as we speak. Funny our justice system is not doing us any justice anymore,” he said with a serious face.
“What exactly is your problem? I’m hurting here, I just lost a child. We all lost a child we loved and cared for and you come here to tell me I should be behind bars! Behind bars for what?” I asked him with tears in my eyes.
“Tell me Miss… if you don’t have anything to hide, why don’t you come with me to the hospital, in fact why haven’t you even bothered going to visit your Madam?
“Because I don’t want to lose my job. My boss doesn’t want anything to do with her and…”
“But I should think she was the one who hired you, not so?” he asked frowning. “Okay, how about I ask your boss on your behalf so you can accompany me to the hospital, because my client desperately wants to see you.”
I felt my heart beating in my throat. Why would she want to see me? Why can’t they just arrest her and throw away the keys?
“Craig, it’s you again?” asked Katlego, who did not seem pleased to see him.
“Mr Mangena, I’m sorry for intruding but Mrs Mangena desperately wants to see your maid here, so I thought…”
“You mean Miss Legae, Craig, because as far as I’m concerned, the only Mrs Mangena I know is my mother. I don’t see why she would want to see my employee; she is not her business anymore unless she wants her to help pack her things, not that she would need them in prison.
“Mr Mangena, like I said, I understand that you are angry, and… all I’m asking for is your maid to accompany me to hospital because Lulu…”
“Okay, if she has anything to say to Mantoa, I guess she has to say it to my face. I’ll accompany you as well.”
“Oh my God, are you sure?” asked Craig with an excited voice.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t be so smug, because two minutes in her ward might just be all I need. Mantoa, get dressed so we can get this over and done with.”

: Oh no! Do you think Lulama is going to have worked out the truth about that terrible night?
