As Sipho was about enter the gate at his place, he saw something leaning on the electricity bowser a short distance from the gate. He then went closer to see what it was. As scared as he was, he wanted to stop and just run to his room, but he could not. He just went closer and closer to the bowser, and his heart started beating faster when he saw that it was a person. Not just a person, it was Naledi, and she was crying.
When he got to her, he took his phone and used its flashlight to see what was happening. He then saw her with a broken glass in her hand and blood all in her thighs. She was cutting herself, so he went down to her, picked her up, and took her to his room. He then plugged the kettle on, took her clothes off, washed her wounds, and put her to bed. He did all of those things without saying a word.
The following morning, Sipho woke up alone in the bed. He wanted to do the laundry, but his basket of dirty clothes was nowhere in the room. He then went to look for Naledi outside and found her doing the laundry for him.
“Good morning,” he said, hugging her from behind.
“Hi, are you okay?” she responded, stopping her washing and turning around to look at Sipho.
“I am okay, how are you doing?” he asked, kissing her everywhere on the face.
“I am fine … Please stop …” she responded, giggling.
“How are your legs?” he asked.
“They are paining a little,” she responded. “How is your arm?”
“It hurts, a lot …” he responded, taking her hand and spinning her around. “I’m going to go prepare breakfast for us.”
“Okay, I will be with you shortly. I love you,” she said, pecking him on his cheek.
Sipho went back inside, fixed the bed, swept the floor, and started fixing the breakfast. Shortly after, Naledi was finished with the laundry, and they sat down and ate their food in silence. They both knew they needed to talk, but they were waiting to see who was going to start. They just stayed in awkward silence until Naledi decided she wanted to go home. That was when Sipho finally got the courage and asked to talk to her.
“You can ask me anything. Actually, I also have a few questions too,” Naledi responded.
“You can go first,” Sipho said.
“Let us start with that b*tch from last night, what is your business with her?” she asked.
“Thabile, she called and wanted me to help her find a room for the night,” he responded. “After booking her stay at the B&B, she followed me here and we talked and talked until it was very late. I then decided to let her sleep over. I never intended to sleep with her, and I do not know why she took her clothes off when you knocked on the door. Honestly …”
“What is your relationship with her?” she asked.
“She is my ex-girlfriend,” he responded.
“Oh, okay,” she said. “I am sorry I stabbed you. It is your turn now.”
“I am sorry for bringing Thabile here,” he said. “What I wanna talk about is this ring and how I started fainting since you gave it to me.”
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“What I mean is what kind of ring is this?” he asked, holding up the ring to her eyes.
“It is a finger ring, just like all the other finger rings. Why?” she asked.
“Thabile said you spoke to it when I passed out, why would you do that if it was just a ring?” he asked, and he was slowly boiling up with anger.
“Well, it is a long story, but I promise, it is a normal ring,” she responded.
“You might want to start talking because I have a lot of time,” he said, still trying to remove the ring from his pinkie finger.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Naledi asked.
“Yup, one hundred,” he responded, pushing her some more.
“Fine, Sipho, but please promise me it will stay between us,” she said, sitting herself comfortably.
“You have my word,” Sipho promised, twitching a smile.
