“Solo, I never knew you love me that much…” she said as I was driving.

“I blame myself for falling in love with you,” I replied, without even looking at her.

“What do you mean?” She asked.

“I don’t trust you. You keep on changing each passing day.”

“Solo, what are you saying?” she sounded annoyed. “OK, just love me for who I am!” she said.

“Honie, love is based on trust. If there is no trust, there is technically no love!” I educated her.

“Solo, you may come up with all your theories but just know that I love you,” she concluded.

I looked at her for a while then I stopped the car. “Do you really love me or you just need my protection?” I asked.

She didn’t reply with words. She just opened the door and got out. I watched her taking steps without looking back. I followed her and held her on her shoulder.

“I think you are right, we don’t know each other,” she said and I turned her face. She was full of tears and I felt guilty.

“I’m sorry but I just wanted to make sure… I was just so scared. I wanted to be sure that you are truly the one for me.” I said, apologetically.

We both got back in the car and we started making promises. Finally, we made peace and proceeded with our journey to an unknown destination. Whilst driving, Janet noticed a road which she claimed led to one of her friends who used to be a classmate back at her secondary school days.

Being homeless, I suggested she call her and she did that. My clothes were a bit stinky so I was forced to undress and put on the police uniform. We got to Janet’s friend’s home. Her name was Thoko but Janet preferred to call her TK. Janet introduced me as her fiancé and I had no problem with that.

After giving us tea, TK asked me, “Are you a policeman?”

I nodded and added that I was also working on the scandal. She asked no more questions, though I could tell from her presentation that she had a lot of questions.

When night time finally came, TK showed me a room that I was to spend my night in. It was small but enough for me. I charged my phone for just thirty minutes and I picked it up to check what was trending. There was a story that one of the partakers in the scandal had committed suicide. That was a day ago. I scrolled down and realised that two more suspects had also been found dead. That meant that only less than twenty suspects were alive.

The next day I went to the nearest market to buy us some clothes. We stayed at the house for about a week. During that week, a total of twelve suspects were killed.

I now suspected that the murderer might be the Python Boss. I felt that, I had to do something about it. Just when I was thinking about it, TK called me to the sitting room.

“Solo, meet my husband who also works for the Kamuzu Malawi Police!”

I looked at the policeman and it was the same policeman I had knocked and undressed.

“Wow! There we go again!” he scared me then he looked up, “Janet! Are you up there in the ceiling?” he mocked. Then he took his handcuffs and arrested Janet.

“Arrest me instead!” I sacrificed myself.

“Instead? I’m arresting both of you!” he concluded and there entered two more police officers. “You’ll be on television soon!” he said as they let us out.

TK looked at Janet and said, “I had to do that… I’m sorry for betraying you guys.”

We were locked in a cell and we stayed there until night. At around 12 o’clock midnight, one police officer took us and masked us. He led us to a car which from the voices, I could guess there were two more people, could be heard.

“Boss, here are the people!” He whispered.

“Are you sure?” the boss asked and I recognised the voice. It was that of Mrs Khate, Janet’s mum.

“Mum, will you kill us?” Janet asked, so scared.

“I’m just doing my work.” She said.
