I get to work five minutes late, not so bad. I sit down and try to make sense of everything that just happened. I know the guy but from way back, and back then he was not as cute as he is now – now he is a whole mood, not to mention his car. I would die to take a drive in that car.

Time to go home. I did not finish much but I am just glad the day is over. I get home, take a long shower and watch a movie to make me fall asleep. The movie ends at 10 pm, I still cannot sleep, not sure what is happening.

I get a text just when I am about to call my mom.

“I hope I did not scare you off, hopefully next time will be better, sweet dreams – love Thabo.”

A smile is on my face, hot flashes at the same time. Thabo, yes, I remember the name now. How did he get my number? This guy is more than creepy.

I do not know if I should text back or what, but anyway I leave it and think it’s too late even to call my mom now, she must be sleeping. The following morning I wake up early, but my alarm did not ring, I wonder why. I check on my phone, it is my leave day. I am supposed to be taking my mom out, it’s her 50th birthday, oh crap I forgot all about that. I take a quick shower amd make a few calls to the spa to make sure everything is ready. It is a good thing I booked in time, now I just need to pick up her cake and fetch her.

Everything is going accordingly, the cake is just as I wanted it to be, my mom is up and ready so we head straight to the spa. We get there and everything is ready for a full day treatment.

My mom is so happy and overwhelmed by all this. “You’ve really outdone yourself, ntombi yam,” she says.
I smile. I give her a warm hug and say, “You deserve it, mama, I could never have done less.”

The day goes by; we laugh and chat about everything, as she is my best friend after all.

“So, tell me, my big girl, who is the lucky guy in your life now?” she asks.

I look at her with a confused face, how did we get to this conversation? “Uhm no one, I am just enjoying my single self. I am waiting for my husband now. No more dating, dating is just a waste of time, ma. But there is someone, or some guy that I met this other day…”

As I begin telling her about this random Thabo story, she smiles and says, “Be careful, my girl, you can never trust anyone, but also be open to love, this might just be your one.”

We giggle and go on with our conversation, and the day continues to go well.
