Denzel was true to his word. As soon as I graduated, he surprised me after our private celebration with keys to my new car and apartment. Thanks to him, I was set! I was eighteen years old, and I was living in a large apartment in the heart of the city and driving the latest Mercedes coupe. I felt like I was living in a dream world, and everything was very perfect.

As soon as I moved out of my mother’s house, I felt a new sense of freedom, and I loved it! As I sat on my plush white couch, admiring what was all mine, loud knocks banged against my door. I hopped up in confusion, wondering who would be at my door at that time, and then opened it up to see Lwazi standing there. I had almost forgotten that he was supposed to come over that day.

“Lwazi!” I said, smiling. “Come on in,” I continued, and then I stepped back in order to let him in.

Lwazi swaggered in and looked around my new place. “So, this is how you are living, huh?” he asked as we head over to the couch.

“Yup!” I responded, gleaming.

“So, this guy got you an apartment and a car?” he continued with the questions.

“Yes,” I responded. “He wanted to help me out.”

“Help you out?” he asked, and his face scrunched up. “No one will buy you a nice place and a cool car just because. He is doing that for you so he can practically own you,” he went on.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head in response. “Whatever, Lwazi. He is not like that,” I said.

“Please, that guy feels like you are all his and only his! And you are wrong for even using him for his money,” he snapped, but I was not trying to hear all that at that moment.

“Look, I know you are trying to be a good friend and all, Lwazi, but I do not care right now. I have to do whatever I have do for me, and if I have to keep sleeping with him, then I will,” I responded.

“Alright, you do what you do, but if that does happen, do not act surprised, because I told you so,” Lwazi cautioned.

“Whatever, Lwazi. So, what is going on with you?” I asked, changing the subject.

I knew that Lwazi was trying to be a good friend, but at the end of day, he was not the one paying the damn bills. People always had their opinions, but I was all about the money, and if they did not contribute anything, then they could save their opinions.

Tell us: Do you think Lwazi is right for saying what he said?
