“They see me rolling, they hating patrolling and they tryna catch me riding dirty tryna catch me riding dirty…” mumbled Scott.

“Hey I wanna take my horse to the uptown road I wanna ride till I can’t no more. Yours is old fashion, bro. Dude, don’t waste your time, rap isn’t for you. I think you should stick to reggae Latino, you know, like ‘Gasolina’ by Daddy Yankee,” said Nick.

“No, Nicky,” continued Scott, “Reggaeton Latino is for losers, simply because we came from Mexico doesn’t mean that I should sing Reggaeton Latino. Look at rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, his mother is Mexican and his dad is Puerto Rican but he chose to rap here in the USA!”

“Yeah, yeah! You don’t have to be so defensive, clout chaser!” bellowed Nick.

“I’m not clout chasing, you moron! I’m simply expressing my zeal to rap. I like rapping, especially mumble rap. Kodak Black inspired me to rap, you know, he’s like my role model; though he’s currently in jail facing criminal charges,” said Scott.

“You see, Scott, I don’t mean to be offensive but truth must be told! Most of these rappers are hard-core criminals. Some even smoke weed I mean, marijuana. To add insult to injury, some are killed by their fellow rappers and the police,” said Nick.

“Listen, Nick. Your words can pierce my soul but they can’t break my bones. I’m going to be the number one rapper! My songs will top chart the Billboard USA one day. Don’t worry, because my journey to becoming a rap legend, has just begun,” concluded Scott.

Nickson and Scott Milby are identical twins born in 1997 in Mexico. They are of same height of 182.6 centimetres tall. They originate from the rural hacienda countryside of Mexico. Their father was American and mother Mexican. Nick was the older twin.

They were studying at Johns Hopkins University, Maryland. Their father, Derick Milby, had forced them to study there. He wanted his sons to graduate and become neurosurgeons but Scott didn’t want to study there anymore. His dream of being a rap legend was creeping up on him to the core. He wanted to make his dreams a reality by switching universities. He did his entrance exams, passed and enrolled at Maryland Institute College of Art without his father’s knowledge.

Nick, on the other hand, wanted to be a pilot but his father would listen to none of it. He had no choice but to study neurosurgery. Their mother, Araceli Guadalupe, strongly opposed Derick’s idea of forcing his children to study what they didn’t want. But Derrick was as stubborn as a mule.

One sunny Tuesday morning, Araceli was at her marvellous garden watering her daffodils located just behind their mansion patio. She liked maintaining high levels of American hygiene standards. She always wore her long but fitting overalls, gloves and sloggers waterproof boots. She always had a mask on when doing outdoor activities due to Covid-19.

Scott arrived home from college in his brand-new Porsche his father had bought for him. The security guard at the gate hurriedly opened up the gate and the car entered. Scott immediately went to the garden where his mother was.

“Hi mom,” said Scott.

“Hi, sweety, how was school today?” asked Araceli.

“School is fine. Uhm, where is Nicky?” asked Scott.

“Nickson is not in the house, he might probably be at his friend’s house studying. You know your brother with books,” said Araceli.

“Yeah, he is a bookworm, a real nerd,” said Scott.

“Hey, that’s not a good way to talk about your brother,” reprimanded Araceli.

“Sorry mom,” said Scott.

“You better be,” said Araceli.

“Uhm, mom, there’s something I wanna tell ya. It’s very important,” said Scott.

“What is it, son?” his mom asked.

“I changed my mind about studying at Hopkins, I am now at the Maryland Institute College of Art,” said Scott.

“What?” shouted Araceli.

“But you told me it was a good idea, remember?”

“Yes, but I didn’t tell you to do it right away! What will your father say?” asked Araceli.

“Leave dad to me, mom. I’ll talk to him about it when he gets home,” said Scott.

“Your dad will be so disappointed in you,” said Araceli.

“I know mom. That’s why I have to be ready for anything. I have to face my worst fears,” said Scott.

“Good luck on your journey, Scott. But I don’t see anything good with being a rapper, son,” said Araceli.

“Mom, not you too! Nicky is against it, and now you?” asked a bewildered Scott.

“No it’s just that…”

“Mom, the rap game is just like any other career out here. It pays, but I’m not interested in making money because rap is a passion. Rap music means the world to me, mom. Please don’t take it away,” said Scott.

“Alright, if you insist. I’ll not take what you love away from you but instead, I will support it grow. If that’s what you want to do, son, you have my blessings,” his mom insisted.

“Really mom?” Scott said placing both hands on his head in disbelief.

“Yes, dear,” said Araceli.

“Thanks mom. You’re simply the most beautiful mom in the whole world,” said Scott.

“Don’t flatter me with your silly jokes. Go and eat some of the tacos I prepared for you before I change my mind,” his mom joked.

“My favourite! Thanks mom,” said Scott before running towards the house.

After the nice midmorning snack: Tacos de camarones (shrimp tacos) consisting of fried shrimps, a very popular Mexican dish. Scott Milby headed to his room. He closed the door shut, opened up his laptop, put on his headphones and started rapping.

Five hours passed and Scott was still asleep on the bed. Still listening to music, he didn’t realise the honking outside. His brother had arrived.

After exchanging pleasantries, Nick headed to his room just opposite Scott’s room. He noticed that the door was shut and knocked but there was no response. Scott was fast asleep. Nick decided to enter the room and took the headphones off. He placed a basin full of water beneath him so that when he woke up, he would trip and fall. Nick left the room and waited outside while grinning devilishly.
