Likumbi

When I opened my eyes, they were blinded by a sharp, bright light, and it hurt my eyes very bad. I could not see clearly, so I rubbed my eyes and my vision cleared up. I looked around and stood up. When I saw a door, I rushed to it and tried to walk out, but the moment I stepped out, I felt a strong grip on my left foot. I had been tied up with some kind of homemade rope.

Although the room I was in was small, it was not very bad. It had little fairy lights, blankets, and a small couch. I sat on it and began to read one of the comics on it. Not very long after that, someone came into the room. I was very afraid, but I knew it was time take action.

“Who are you? Why did you bring me here? What do you want from me?” I said sternly while shaking my fist.

“You mean you don’t know who I am?” a familiar voice said, and after saying it, the man turned and looked at me with a somewhat psychotic gaze.

“Cyrus! Why are keeping me hostage?” I asked.

“Well,” Cyrus said with a snicker that made my heart skip a beat with fright. “Everything that I did was out of loving you.”

“Love, is this love to you? Tying me up with some unoriginal rope is love to you?” I asked fuming. “You could have at least used the original thing. You’re a mess Cyrus.”

“Classic Likumbi,” Cyrus said with a giggle. “I miss you, and I’ve realised that I want you back.”

“Cyrus am I just a pawn to you?” I asked. “Will you throw me around and take me back whenever you wish? I’m not your property.”

As soon as I said that, there was dead silence in the room. One could almost hear a pin drop. Cyrus looked at me with so much emotion, I could not help but speak up.

“When you kissed that other boy that day, you crushed my soul. I am grateful I left you, because I’ve met somebody better,” I said, and the last part I said involuntarily. Well I said it anyway, and a part in my soul meant it.

“You mean Javier?” Cyrus said, clenching his fists at the mention of his name.

“Yes I do, and he has been there for me,” I responded.

“If I cannot be with you, then no one will,” Cyrus said, and those were his last words.
