“You know, me and Chayna were really close in the past. We knew everything about each other because we shared a lot of things. I really don’t understand why he changed to being jealous of me.” Fungani said.
“You see wena Fungani, many people are envious of the life we are living. They would do anything, even kill, to have the opportunity of belonging in a royal family. So I think that is one of the reasons he is jealous of you especialy since now you are an accountant.” Ketse said.
“Ja neh. I recall the moment when he threw a bash in this house. It was my first time partying as my parents wouldn’t allow me to. It was fun and yet hectic at the same time. We were so drunk that we lost the key to the house along the way from the bottle store. The people were stuck inside the house so we had to break in the house, but we failed and that is when we decided to…” Fungani paused as he recalled something that might help them out.
“Hold on a second. I think I know a way to get inside the house!” Fungani said loudly.
“Great, how, how?” Ketse asked, keen to know.
“The last time we decided to enter the house from the chimney, a structure that provides ventilation for hot gases or smoke or fireplace to the outside atmosphere ontop of the house!” Fungani retorted.
“Isn’t that dangerous?” Ketse asked concerned.
“No the electric gas have been removed, so it’s nolonger functioning.” Fungani said.
“Great! Now what are we waiting for? Let’s go there.” Ketse said.
“I know where I’ll find a ladder. He has a storeroom behind the house.” Fungani replied.
“It’s really dark in here, can you see where we are going?” Ketse asked.
“Yeah, I’m about to jump down.” Fungani replied. “Give me your hand.”
“Here, help me down then.”
“Ready, to jump?”
“Yeah, pull me down.”
“The basement is behind that dressing table.” Fungani said pointing.
“It looks like the door is already open.” Ketse said.
“Shhh, do you hear the voices?” Fungani asked.
“I didn’t mean to break your heart. All I want is for us to be together just for the sake of our baby.” Chayna said.
“Kodwa njena ubungayifuni lengane ude wandixotsha apha.” Qaphela said.
“I was confused my queen. I wasn’t prepared to have a baby as yet.” Chayna explained.
“I knew you were behind this you bastard!” Ketse said furious.
“What is happeneing in here?” Fungani asked.
“Ayi wethu akusiyo eyonto oyicingayo.” Qaphela replied.
“I should have known better, that you were sleeping with my wife. How could you do this to me Chayna?” Fungani said.
“You mean my wife to be? We are having a baby togather!” Chayna bragged.
“Qaphela, is that true?” Fungani asked hopelessly.
“Jonga wethu ndicela ukuchaza!” Qaphela said terified.
“Save it! Look I am DONE being a nice guy! I’ve had it up to here with chicks and I therefore now decide I am DONE with being a nice guy. Women don’t WANT nice guys. They want cruel guys, and so that’s what I’m going to be. This time I’m putting myself as a priority, this time I will recognise and honour my needs in relationships, not my family’s, not my friends. But my own! I’m done with this whole thing!” Fungani said and ran away.
“Don’t be a coward nephew, come back. We can sort this out!” Ketse said, but Fungani didn’t want to hear anything but helped himself out of the house.
*****
“Good day Mr Fungani.” The receptionist from the hotel said.
“Good day sir, I’m here to see Thandeka.” Fungani said in a hurry.
“Unfortunately she had just left, but she said I should give you this letter!” The receptionist said.
“Oh, okay thank you sir.” Fungani replied in a down manner.
Fungani sat at the sofa in the waiting room and read the letter stressed.
Hellow my love.
I hope you are coping well without me. I just want to tell you that I had never stoped loving you and miss you everyday of my life. I want you to know that everynight when I close my eyes I pray the Lord keeps you safe. Though the oceans apart, but my heart beats close to yours. You are always in my mind, my dreams, my heart, my thoughts and even in my fantisies. I hope that you will find it in your heart to forgive me for disapearing and leaving you just like that but I had no choice.
Your father didn’t like me and was not willing to accept me as yours; he didn’t want me near you and assured me that he will never allow us to get married. He accused me of many things that I didn’t know off and further made the situation worse by threatning to destroy my family if I ever come near you again. He said he will do everything he can to tear us apart. He said a man can even kill to protect his family so those words really terrified me hence I decided to fake my death.
I also got to find my biological parents. It happened that my father is a Grandson of Prince Bhekifa George Langa who was Prime Minister of Swaziland from 6 June 1981 to 8 April 1986. Langa was a Swazi politician known to be pro-South African and a traditionalist. My father was not notable or rather not a popular member of the Swazi royal family hence I was a bit far away from the crown. I was the 12th in line to the throne; since then, with births of royals ahead of me, I have fallen to 30th place. Even though I may not be a queen but I have earned a royal name Thandiwe Ndlovukazi Langa and I’m still part of the Mlangeni Royal Family. I have persuaded my sister, Thandeka, to search for you exactly the way I found you. I hope it worked. And if it did I hope she comes back to Johannesburg with you so that we may be one again.
Yoursfaithfully
Thandiwe
