“Excuse me ma’am, are you okay?” A gentleman pushing a trolley asked.
“A woman has run away with my baby”, Huvepo responded. The gentleman walked away without a comment.
A second later Huvepo head the same gentleman screaming “Runako, Runako!” she stood up and walked straight to him.
“Excuse me sir, I left my wife sitting in the car parked next to yours, did you by any chance see where she went?”
“No, I didn’t unfortunately.”
“The lady who stole my child told me her name was Runako,” Huvepo said.
Takunda was speechless, he didn’t know what to do or say, was is supposed to apologise or what?
He gathered some courage, “Get in the car let’s look for them.”
Huvepo got in as she dialled 999, a police officer answered the call and Huvepo reported the case, the officer asked for their location, and Takunda gave Huvepo their home address, which was where they were heading.
“Why did you call the police, do you want to send my wife to prison?” Takunda asked even if deep down he knew that was the sensible thing to do.
“You wife stole my baby, she belongs behind bars,” she responded with a lot of pain and bitterness in her voice.
“She is not a mentally stable woman, you shouldn’t have been careless with you baby.”
Huvepo started crying, she knew that was what her husband would have said if he was alive, that she shouldn’t have been careless.
They got to the house and Takunda started screaming his wife’s name. He checked in every room, just as Huvepo was searching outside.
Runako was nowhere to be found.
The police arrived a few minutes later, Takunda and Huvepo met them at the gate.
Huvepo once again narrated how the baby was taken and added how she met Takunda.
Huvepo gave the police her phone displaying her baby’s photograph. Takunda took a look at the picture and shockingly she fit the description he was given by Runako every morning after she had her baby nightmares.
That’s when it hit him, “I think l know where she might be,” Takunda said remembering her wives dream, “Follow me.”
