For the first time in a long time the winds blew in the right direction, the flowers seemed to be blooming with a smile, everything seemed to be in Runako’s favour that beautiful afternoon. It had taken ten good years to finally hear this and the excitement was immeasurable.

She drove with all four of her car windows open that day, she was enjoying the scent of rose that were planted in the front yards of most of the houses in her neighbourhood. She smiled as she imagined how her darling husband was going to react to the astonishing news. Finally, their love story had reached its happily ever after stage.

Just as she drove into the driveway of their yard with a 25 roomed two story mansion, six by four meters heart shaped swimming pool and a garden as well as orchard in the corner with fruit trees surrounding their green house.

Runako was so excited, she did not even wait to park the car in the garage, and she even left the engine running as if she had just come to pick up something.

Runako rushed into the house screaming her husband’s name, “Takunda, Takunda, where are you?”

“I am right here, what’s wrong? What’s going on?” Takunda replied astonished by his wife’s behaviour, he had never seen her that excited before, especially on Tuesdays when she had her regular check-up with the doctor.

“Sit, please sit I have the best news,” Runako said holding her partner’s hand leading him to the launch.

“I don’t want to sit, you are acting crazy just tell me what it is?” Takunda responded,
curiosity was killing him now.

“Honey, the doctor said you are going to be a father, I am three weeks pregnant,” Runako said as tears of joy and relief streamed down her cheeks.

Takunda felt weak in the knees so he sat down, he was wearing that ‘I am in deep thoughts’ face. He had wait to a decade for this day, after all hope was lost it finally came and he didn’t know what to do about it.

Runako was astonished by her husband’s reaction, it was the least of her expectation.

“Taku are you okay?” She asked as she sat next to him.

Takunda looked at his wife and the tears that he was holding back ran down his cheeks.

He gave his wife a hug and told her words that had become scarce in their marriage, “I love you, and you are going to be a great mother.”

Runako smiled and responded, “I love you too Taku, we are going to be great parents.”

Their marriage was dominated by names of good fertility doctors, fertility medication and ovulation dates, the love and affection was lost somewhere along the way of trying to have a child.

Nine months later Runako gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and named her Chipo. She named her Chipo because her daughter was a gift from God. She had kept her struggles buried deep in her heart and she would forever share the testimony.

Runako never left Chipo’s side. She and her husband we the best parents any child would ever ask for.
