It is quite sad how people tend to walk around with past hurts and pains and allow their negative emotions to affect those that have nothing to do with it. The greatest battle of all is an internal battle and victory when you overcome, I thought to myself after I got out of the principal’s office. It was a long walk towards the gate, under the scorching sun with no umbrella. I was lost in thoughts awaiting a new experience with a smiley face.

I have always been a happy soul no matter what. Dressed in an orange shirt, matching sandals and black formal pants that sat well on my slender figure and short hair, oozing with confidence as I couldn’t care less about what the students passing beside me thought of me. As I was walking my attention was shifted towards this picture perfect young man partially blinding my eyes with a white wife beater, red cap and black pants. It was clear he was one of those hip hop guys you only see in American movies.

Was this an illusion or reality? It has been a really long day so hallucinations are just bound to occur but come to think of it, it was a university after all. We have to meet such people but he was one of a kind. It was not long before I noticed the book in his hands. My attention was immediately shifted to the book. A book worm I was and finally I’ve found my match. In South Africa, someone reading a book on the road, a young man in particular? Wow, that’s a first, I thought to myself. I have only ever read about this in novels and I never thought I would actually see it. Then I thought what the heck? Let me speak to him, I thought.

“Hello, uh sorry, but what is the title of your book? Gosh I love reading, it seems interesting tell me more, argh silly me. Can I please check the blurb at the back?”

“Yeah it is a great book (flashing a smile).”

“I have to go. Oops, where are my manners, I’m Boitumelo or Tumi and you?”

“I’m Morris” he said

“What? Mor’ris” I asked

“Morris” he repeated,

“You will have to pardon my pronunciation, bye” I said.

That was the last I saw of him, the best conversation I had in ages. We met again in the Life Science class. I didn’t recognise him but he did. All I saw was a handsome man who stood out from the rest as if he was the only one in class. You know those stares where you keep staring and look away? Yeah, we exchanged one of those. Fate had its way and we were put in the same group.

Tell us: What do you think of Morris and Boitumelo, will anything transpire between them?
