When I woke up in that room with Ms Moale, I thought I was married to her. But thank God I was not married, just imagine being married at 24, especially after I found out that I would be teaching. I wanted to eat my money alone but still I wouldn’t because I had a house with her.

Now it was the first time I would attend the assembly as a teacher. For a moment I had forgotten about my colleague who was also my girlfriend. I went to her with confidence.

“Are you alright so far?” I asked.

“Yes, I am,” she replied, “it’s great to be here. All those years we spent at university are being put into good use,” replied my girlfriend.

As I was about to continue the conversation, the principal called us forward with two other teachers. She introduced us to the learners. The learners were so welcoming and happy to have a new teacher.

From there I went to my class. Who was I kidding, it wasn’t my class. It was given to me for that day because the teacher of that class had not pitched due to some sickness he had or something. Little did I care. I held on to the feeling of having my own classroom. My timetable wasn’t bad at all. I had two classes before the break, the grade 12D and 12E.

One last class before the break and I was already tired. As my learners worked into class, I introduced myself. I told them about my vision and purpose, I also told them how I wanted to see them do well and obtain marks that will open doors for them.

I felt great, the majority of the learners were interested in my speech.

“I’m not sure of the topics of this year but I will tell you when I get the them for the first term.” As I was about to continue, the school bell rang.

The school bell continued to ring and suddenly, I heard an annoying sound.

It was my phone beeping. I rolled around and I switched the alarm off, waking up from my sleep. I woke up.

Flip! I had been dreaming. I woke up in a university residence, with the glance at my roommate who was preparing for a class.

“Damn it!” I looked at my phone and it was half past eight on a Monday. I had a class at ten o’clock, but there was still time. I said to myself, trying to cool down. I quickly rushed to the shower and prepared for my history class.

Today I had a dream, I dreamt of the nicer things I wished for my future. I had a girlfriend, a house and I was a teacher in a good school. Finally, my dreams had come true but in a dream.
