It is Monday morning Daniella is sitting at her desk in her office at the law firm. She is typing a document on her computer when Chris passes by her office.

“Good morning, Daniella,” he waves as he passes her office door.

She watches him disappear in confusion and shock. This is not the Chris she knows. The Chris she knows won’t pass by her office door without entering with two cups of coffee and doughnuts.

The two of them would sit down and eat breakfast together before starting their work for the day; it was their routine. Maybe he was still mad about the party? It seems a reasonable assumption. I will give him a day or two to cool off, and things will return to normal, Daniella thinks.

It is 1:00 PM, and Daniella was waiting for Chris, as he usually comes to her office to pick her up for lunch. She always looked forward to their chats about their work as attorneys, and sometimes they had a good gossip.

She was about to call Chris when she sees Mary with takeaways heading to Chris’s office.

“I guess I am having lunch alone today,” she sighs. She had wanted to use lunch to apologise to Chris about the incident at the party. It’s upsetting that Mary has crushed her plans to make amends.

A week has gone by, and everything is still the same; Chris just passes by Daniella’s office and waves a good morning. He now eats lunch with his girlfriend. Daniella is certain that Mary has replaced her in Chris’s life. Everything that she and Chris did together, he does it with Mary. She feels like they have broken up even though they were not together. She has to apologize to Chris and make amends.

“Knock-knock,” Daniella says, standing at Chris’s office door, which was slightly ajar.

She takes a step in and gives a shy smile. “Hi Buddy, I brought breakfast.

“Hi Dee, sorry I have already had breakfast,” he replies, focused on his computer.

“Oh.” She places the two cups of coffee, and the doughnuts on his desk, grabs a chair and sits down. “I am really sorry for the way I behaved on the night of the party. I don’t know what came over me. I guess I had too much wine.”

“Sure,” Chris replies with a shrug, still looking at his computer.

“I can see that you are busy. I will leave you to it.” She stands up from the chair, feeling defeated and walks out of Chris’s office.

That didn’t go as I anticipated, she thinks. She feels frustrated after all the effort she had made to go apologise; yet he hadn’t even looked up at her.

She has to come up with a plan to break up the two love birds fast before things get too far and Chris proposes to Mary. He seems so madly in love with her; one would think she has given him a love potion.
