About an hour later, Zamo awoke to a burst of infectious laughter coming from the living room. She recognized the voice but couldn’t quite place it. As she pattered downstairs, she found Kenny and Samke huddled in front of a laptop, giggling at whatever was on display on the screen.

They turned when they heard her come in and proceeded to show her the object of their amusement. It was a man in his thirties, wearing a clown suit at what looked like a kid’s birthday party.

“This is the guy I was telling you about, your soon-to-be beau! Is he hilarious or what? Look at that big red nose and those floppy, oversized clown shoes!” Still giggling, Samke copied and pasted the picture on a word document presumably to print it out.

Kenny piped up, “Hey Zamo, have you decided on this double date? I’ve a friend who can take him off your back if you don’t want him. She’s looking, available and ready to settle down.”

“I don’t know Kenny,” Zamo hesitantly responded. “All will depend on what kind of information Samke has found on the net. If there’s just one thing I don’t like, your friend is more than welcome to him.”

Samke promptly pulled out a chair for her.

“Gosh, you’re so picky! He could be the one you know? Come sit here and have a look at what I found. I promise you my friend, you will not be disappointed.” she said emphatically.

When she saw the copious amount of information her friend was able to dig up, she couldn’t believe her eyes. It was not so much about quantity but more about the quality of the man and what he brings to the table. On paper, he seemed to be quite a decent guy; the type you would not be embarrassed to introduce to friends and family.

Mr Peello Mikane.

She continued to read up on him and learnt that he was also a cum laude Harvard University graduate. This was a huge plus in her men-to-date-and-marry book. Apart from being a philanthropist, he also established a bursary fund that assists well deserving high school pupils to further their studies at universities of their preference. Mhh. A man after her own heart! No criminal record. He had never been married and had no children. No baby mama drama. Hallelujah! Not bad looking either and tall enough to tower over any high heeled day.

What the heck, she thought; throw caution to the wind and give the guy a chance. Who knows? He could be her prince charming! He ticked all the boxes!

“Alright, double date it is then. The guy is not half bad and seems squeaky clean.”

“Yay, you go girl! We’ll have so much fun, you will not regret it!” Samke squealed in delight and seemed so sure that the two were perfect for each other.

Kenny also joined in. “Oh hail Miss Picky is going on a date! And for once, she will let her hair down and enjoy herself! You go on with yo bad self honey chile! Uh uh uh!!” Kenny, being pro women, often reverted to an American twang when excited about something or expressing girl power.

“Okay, okay enough with the excitement.” Zamo interjected, “Plus it’s not a date. Let us get that straight. I’m going to go out with Samke and her man, and well, meet Mr Mikane in the process.”

Little did she know that this would be the start of a new and wonderful chapter in her life.
