A few months went by after Oliver and Kate’s first date, but Kate had not rested from dreaming about Oliver and her being together. She dreamt about him every night for two months, and she thought she was going crazy because the man was not even giving her a hand shake. But, even with him not responding, she kept on having dreams about him and her being a couple.

One night, Kate found herself at Oliver’s house, in his bedroom, and he had his arms around her. She felt like a queen in that position, and Oliver was the perfect gentleman that night. He held her in all the right places, and kissed her in all the right ways. There was nowhere else she would have rather been that moment besides right there in Oliver’s loving arms.

While Kate was resting in Oliver’s arms, she felt tiny fingers touch her face and she jerked awake. It turned out she was having another one of her “Oliver” dreams. When she realised that, she felt a sharp pain in her heart. Oliver was not there, or even anywhere near her. He was just the man she saw in her dreams. In that moment, she decided to date someone else in order to forget about Oliver.

Sometime after Kate took her decision to date other people, she and her family decided to go on a vacation during the Christmas holidays. She knew that, when she was away from the town she loved, she would find some peace.

One night, Kate’s older brother, Jack, took her and their little sister, Sally, out for dancing. It was Christmas Eve, and people were all jolly and having fun. At some point during the night, Jack asked Kate to accompany him to a nearing by ATM to withdraw some money.

“Hey, don’t I know you?” Kate said, turning around to see who was trying to talk to her. She was irritated because she knew that everyone was either drunk or high that night. “Who on earth is this disrespectful person?” she thought, turning around to see who it was. Her thought stopped in their tracks when she saw who it was. “Oliver?” she said, looking at him.

“Yes, the one and only Oliver,” Oliver responded with a smile. He drew Kate into his arms and squeezed her. She was in heaven.

“Oh my goodness! Jack meet Oliver, my friend. Oliver, meet Jack, my brother,” Kate said, introducing them.

Jack and Oliver exchanged greetings, and when they were done, Oliver turned to Kate to speak to her. He asked what she was doing there and which was club she was in that night. She told him the name of the club, and they went their separate ways. But, before leaving, Oliver said he would call her to ask if he could come over to where she was, and Kate thought the night could not get any better.

Oliver did eventually show up a few hours later, but she was not in the best of moods that night. She had not known how to tell him not to come that night, so, when her mood did not get better, Oliver left and they never saw each other again that evening. He was with his friends, and she was with her family and friend, but Kate still felt terrible.

“What did this man do to me?” Kate thought to herself. She thought he was old news, yet there he was, asking to keep her company with his friends.

On New Year’s Eve, Oliver sent Kate a text to find out where she would be that night. She responded and said they would be at a family friend’s place for a get together, and that was it, they never communicated again … in that way.

***A Few Years Later***

After many attempts of trying to find “Mr Right”, Kate gave up on the search or being searched for herself. She had just started working in another city, and life was much better because she had fewer things to think about and a lot more to do. The traveling also made life a lot more interesting.

During that period, Ronald had waltzed into Kate’s life, and he had made her feel things she thought she would never feel again. They were a happy couple.

Now, after dating Ronald for a long time, Kate found herself sitting in her office, thinking back on everything. She had just received a message from Oliver. “Him again. What on earth does he want now?” she thought. “Has he not made me embarrass myself enough in front of him?”

After a while, Kate clicked on the message and read it. She then decided to tell Oliver the truth about what she had thought of him two years prior, and what had been going through her head all the while.

As it turned out, Oliver was also open to telling Kate everything. He told her that he had thought that she was stuck up back then, and that many guys adored her and she loved it. After they spoke, Kate felt happy that they actually got to the point where they were able to tell each other what was in their hearts and heads.
