I waited, and waited, and waited, for Keitumetse’s phone call. When I had finally given up, I took to sleep at about 22:45. While I was getting ready for bed in the bedroom that I shared with my little sister, my phone rang, and the song by DJ Khaled and other various artists, “I’m The One”, blasted.

“Yeah, you looking at the truth,
The money never lie, no. I am the one
Yeah. I am the one Yeah.”

I looked at the phone before swiping up to accept the call. I then took in a deep breath before a “Hello” escaped my lips.

“Hi, it’s Keitumetse,” she said.

I wanted to roll my eyes and say “Keitumetse who?” but I instead sat on the edge of the bed and let out a heavy breath. “I almost thought you wouldn’t call,” I finally confessed.

She laughed. “I’m sorry, angel. I was just busy,” she said.

“I understand,” I responded, nodding as if she could see me.

“Very well, then. You know, I would really like to see you again,” she said.

“I would really like to see you too,” I responded.

“Well then? What’s stopping us?” she asked in high spirits.

“I’m free on weekends. I don’t know about you,” I responded.

“Well, I get an off-day on Saturday too,” she said. “So, I’ll pick you up. We will drive to Jabulani Mall, and we will eat there. On me.”

“I’ll meet you there. And, we’ll both pay,” I responded.

“I see. You like doing things for yourself, don’t you?” she asked.

“I try. Besides, I’m used to doing that,” I responded.

“Well, not with me, honey. You don’t have to bend over backwards trying to please me,” she stated.

“Well, I just prefer it that way. You know, make my woman feel good,” I responded, and she giggled a low but sexy giggle in response. “What?” I asked.

“Your woman. You said I am your woman,” she responded.

I went quiet. I mean, it only seemed natural to me. I did not plan to say it, and it just came out.

“I like that. Your woman,” she said, breaking the silence. “And I can’t wait to see you,” she continued, and we both said our goodnights and retired to bed.
