Why is the devil fighting you?

Luke 8, verses 26 to 30: Then they sailed to the land of Gadarenes, which is Opposite Galilee. And when he stepped out on there!

There met him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with you, Jesus, son of the highest God? I beg you do not torment me! For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it have often seized him and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demons into the wilderness. Jesus asked him saying “what is your name”? And he said “Legion” because many demons had entered him.” (NKJV)

Honestly! It is not about you. It is about what you have and where you are going. The devil knows exactly what you have and what you are capable of in life. Let us look at verse 22 and compare it to verse 26. In verse 22, the problem starts inside the lake, and in verse 26, the problem is a demon-possessed man. These verses show us two different problems where the devil fights the people of God. On the boat, inside the lake, Jesus and his disciples faced the problem of the waves and the storm which fought their journey.

Let me make this clear to you my friend: when the devil is fighting you he is actually not fighting the real you. He is fighting where you are going. The devil does not need what you have today but he needs what you will inherit tomorrow. He is not fighting where you are but fighting where you are going to. The devil is always fighting your tomorrow, not your today.

The Bible says, in Luke 8, verse 26, that on the other side of the lake Jesus met a demon-possessed man. This man was naked and had no house to live in. He lived in the tomb (the graveyard). Jesus healed the man from those demons, which shows us clearly that when the devil was fighting Jesus in the sea he already knew what was going to happen on the other side of the lake. The devil knew that the man would be healed when Jesus arrived, and he was still enjoying the game he was playing in that man’s life.

This is why he appeared in the sea as a storm and big waves and attempted to kill Jesus and his disciples. He knew what was going to happen and where they were going. He was not fighting the start but the end of the journey. He appeared as a storm and big waves trying to break down the boat and make it sink. But because the devil is a fool he used nature to try and kill Jesus, even though he knows that Jesus has power over nature, and that Jesus is the son of God and God created heaven and earth.

Even in our days, we are born-again people, people who serve God and walk according to the ways of the Almighty God. We have got the power to rule over any work of darkness or the devil.

I am so surprised to see people crying because of the problems they face. If Jesus told the waves and the storm to calm down and they obeyed him then why is it so impossible for us believers not to do the same to the waves and storms we meet along the way? We have all that it takes to shake the kingdom of hell by the power of God.

Let us continue with our script. The Bible says the man was naked and had no house to stay in. He was living a life of nakedness with the dead in the tomb. Maybe as you are reading this you are comparing your life today with this man’s life and you see no difference. Maybe you see your life as a naked one and have no shelter to cover and protect yourself. Maybe you are living with the dead in the tomb. You look left, right and centre, but you only smell death and you do not see any solution to your problem.

This book is giving you strength and hope now. You might see yourself naked, with nothing or anyone on your side. You see that the devil has also tormented your life. You are not living the life that God promised to you. You are living for the devil. He is controlling you. Keep on praying, Jesus is coming for you now. Jesus is crossing over to your rescue, and he is going to break down and untie you from the devil’s bindings.

The devil knew about the man on the other side of the lake, that is why he was fighting Jesus’s journey. He knew that Jesus would help that man, and that the man would then go and help more people. This is why you are feeling all the things that you are feeling now. The devil sees what is coming for you. Do not give up, keep on fighting, you are almost there my friend. The devil targets your first steps because he can see already where you are going, even though you have not yet started. He tried to disturb Jesus’s first movement of crossing to the other side of the lake, because he already knew what would happen on the other side.

Let us check the book of Revelation: it will give us a clear understanding of what I am talking about. The devil is not fighting us physically. He is fighting what we are going to get through and what we have in our lives, which is the word of God. He is fighting what is still to come to us. We do not yet know what it is, but he already knows about it. Let us look at Revelation 12, verses 1 to 17:

“Now a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with moon under her feet and on her head a garland of twelve stars. 2. Then being with child, she cried out in labour and in pain to give birth. 3. And another sign appeared in Heaven; behold a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her baby as soon as it was born. 5. She bore a male child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And the child was caught up to God and his throne. (NKJV)”

If we quickly look at verses 4 and 5, we can see that they explain exactly what I have been talking about. Here, the dragon doesn’t need the woman, but needs what she has inside her, which is going to be so useful amongst the people. The dragon knew already that a leader and a King was about to be born. At this point, the woman knew nothing about the blessing she was carrying. All she knew was that she was carrying a child. She didn’t know that she was carrying a king, a ruler of nations, with her. But the devil knew already about everything she was carrying. Maybe when the woman saw the dragon she felt afraid for her life and started to worry that she is going to die now, because the dragon was there to devour her.

She never knew that she had no taste to the dragon. The thing that had a taste to the dragon and presented its aroma to the dragon’s nose was what she was carrying in her stomach. Maybe this dragon is now standing tall in front of you and you are starting to feel nervous and you are starting to see yourself as nothing, as a dead person. Maybe you are facing it now, the dragon of misery, unemployment and poverty.

Listen, my friend. Do not be afraid. The dragon is not here to kill you, but is here for what you are about to give birth to, the king of success that you are carrying, the king of prosperity that you are about to inherit from God. He sees the movements that Jesus is making to come and rescue your life. That is why he reveals himself now.
