The squad decided to go play pool but Lungile stayed behind with Melisa.

“Are you happy with Mongezi?” asked Mongezi.

Melisa nodded yes.

“He is very popular with the ladies; you do know that right?”

Melisa found this offensive, Lungile was his friend — he should be protecting him not ratting him out.

“You’re so beautiful. I would be a great boyfriend, especially for you.”

At first Melisa thought he was drunk and it was the alcohol talking, but then she remembered that he didn’t drink so he was perfectly in his senses. She was now very uncomfortable. He went as far as saying they would make a great couple. Melisa stood up at that moment and went to join the rest because she couldn’t take it anymore. Mongezi saw how tense she was, but decided not to ask anything. The crew had so much fun and decided to leave at midnight.

Melisa opted to go spend the night with Mongezi.

“What’s been bothering you? You seemed a bit tense later in the evening?” he asked.

Melisa didn’t want to tell him because she didn’t want to be the reason for Lungile and Mongezi’s friendship ending.

“I saw something disgusting and don’t want to talk about it,” she lied.

Mongezi could tell that she wasn’t being honest with him but didn’t press the issue further.

That night they had unprotected sex and Melisa was to take the morning after pill in the morning, but when morning hit she forgot and carried on the entire day as usual. Later that day she recalled that she hadn’t taken it and panicked. She fiddled in her bag in her room looking for it and prayed that it wasn’t too late. In her panicked state she took the wrong pill and didn’t realise it. She didn’t inform Mongezi that she’d forgotten because she didn’t want him thinking that she was careless or even worse, reckless.

Melisa decided to go to the shop downstairs to pick a few items. She bumped into Lungile and he smiled but she didn’t return it. They were both waiting for the elevator and he tried making small talk but Melisa didn’t budge, she didn’t want to give him the impression that what he did last night was acceptable. When it was time to get into the lift Melisa turned and went to use the stairs instead. Lungile told himself that he would get her by any means possible. In his mind Mongezi wasn’t good enough for her and as far as he was concerned Melisa was already his, she just had to accept it.

The weekend flew by so quickly, it was now Monday and Melisa didn’t have any classes, she wanted to make lunch for Mongezi so they could discuss the Lungile issue. She sent him a text asking if they could meet for lunch, he replied and said dinner would do. Melisa started cooking, after she was finished she tidied up and went to take a shower.

Mongezi showed up at seven, they had their supper and while having dessert Melisa decided to break the news. Mongezi was furious because he thought Lungile was his best friend. Melisa asked him to sort this out without breaking their friendship because she didn’t want to be the cause of that. He agreed, but told her that he wouldn’t promising anything.

Later that evening he met up with Lungile and they had a discussion which led to an argument as Mongezi was lashing out at Lungile. Lungile wasn’t bothered and ended up saying to Mongezi that only the best man would have her in the end. It was quite clear that the discussion would end in someone getting beaten so Mongezi decided to step back as there was no hope for any sort of resolution. Their friendship ended, just like that.
