“That was fast,” said Lerato as Thando got inside the house.

“Not now Lerato,” he closed the front door and went to his room.

Lerato followed him. She tried to kiss him as he was getting undressed, getting ready for bed.

“Lerato! I said not today, OK?” he said pushing her away.

Lerato looked at him with sadness. She got in bed and pulled the blankets to her side.

After midnight, as they were both asleep far from one another, Lerato’s mother called. She woke up silently and took the phone with her to the lounge, creeping away from her future husband.

“Mama! Did you look at the time?” she asked.

“Yes! I know its 2 a.m.,” she said laughing through the phone.

“You should go back to sleep,” she said as she walked slowly to her room.

“No, did you do it?” asked her mother.

“Yoh! No Mama,”

“Lerato…” her mother shouted through the phone.

“He wasn’t in the mood today, Mama. And I’m scared, what if he finds out I’m not pregnant,” said Lerato but her mother had dropped the phone in frustration.

“What did you just say?” asked Thando as he was on his way to the bathroom

“Baby, wait, I can…”

Thando shouted in anger, “Lerato!”

“Baby wait, I can explain… It’s not what you think,” she said as she followed him to their bedroom.

“Then what is it Lerato? You lied, am I right?” asked Thando as he packed his clothes into his suitcase. Lerato was standing in fear, crying.

“Thando! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”

“Shut up, Lerato. You don’t even deserve this marriage for what you just did.”

Thando walked out of the house, ignoring Lerot’s please. He got into his car and drove off to Likhona’s house. He arrived, angry, begging Likhona to open the front door as she had changed her locks.

“Thando! Are you crazy? Did you look at the time?” she asked as she stood near the door.

“I know, but I need you Likhona,” he said near the door.

“Oh my God, Thando, are you drunk?”

“No! No! No! I’m not drunk, listen, she lied about the pregnancy,” he said as he hoped to get a break through.

“What?”

“Yes! So, please…”

“Oh OK, so why are you here?” she asked without feeling any pity for him.

“Likhona, I love you.”

“Really?” she laughed. “So I’m the second option now? Get out of my yard before I call the cops,” she walked slowly to the telephone to dial the police.

Thando banged the door harshly. “Likhona! I will kill myself if you do not open this door. I promise you, I will as soon as I get in that car.”

Likhona took a deep breath and dropped the phone slowly and she approached the door. She opened the door ninety degrees towards her and looked at him with her brown eyes, seeking answers.

“Really, you’re happy now?” she asked.

“Likhona,”

“What Thando? What do you want from me? You want to have sex with me again, because every time you have a problem you intend on doing that, you’re such…”

“Likhona! Will you marry me?” he said kneeling while holding the ring he was about to engage Lerato with.

“Thando, no,” she said, her eyes wide with excitement, her smile was over rated. “I mean, Yes, yes, I’ll marry you, now stand up,” she hugged and kissed him.

They eventually closed the door and went upstairs to be romantic.
