***Present Day***

News Reporter: “Protests ravaged the entire country after the Government’s failure to deliver its promises, despite all its efforts to maintain control, and with all the wild reports of corruption, racism, crime, unemployment, and inequality looming under its nose. Unsatisfied and angry citizens took matters into their own hands.

“The military is fighting a losing battle, trying to disperse the crowds after the police failed. The President is expected to address the nation, and the country is hoping for him to declare South Africa under a state of emergency.”

Thobela Newspaper Report: “There is a dark hand controlling all the mess in our country. We are pleading to anyone with information to come forward and help restore peace before we fall into a civil war.”

Mr Gorbin went to see Mr Mkhize in his hotel room. When he knocked on his door, Mr Mkhize let him into the room.

“What brings you here, Gorbin?” Mr Mkhize asked.

“I cannot sit while we lose our country, Mr Mukhize,” Mr Gorbin responded. “Our people need us to save them from their own insanity.”

“We cannot do that,” Mr Mkhize said.

“No, Mr Mukhize,” Mr Gorbin responded. “If we give the serum to the police, then they will surely win and restore peace.”

“So, this is why you came here,” Mr Mkhize said. “You hid the fact that the serum makes the subjects mentally unstable after they recover from me.”

Mr Gorbin paused before responding. “Who told you that?” he asked.

“You see, Gorbin, you keep secrets and you know that secrets lead to disaster,” Mr Mkhize responded.

“There is a huge population of people for us to care about that. When they go mentally ill, we will find others to replace them. I am going to implement the serum to help restore order,” Mr Gorbin said.

“Over my dead body,” Mr Mkhize responded.

“Over your dead body then,” Mr Gorbin said, and then removed a pistol and pointed it at Mr Mkhize.

“Gorbin, you do not want blood on your hands,” Mr Mkhize said.

“Mr Mukhize, I cannot allow you to ruin my vision,” Mr Gorbin responded. “The government has failed at its chance. It got the country flooded with corruption and disaster. With the spread of these xenophobic attacks, the country became enemies with neighbouring countries, and it became oil and water with its allies. When I bring South Africa to the second era of apartheid, no one will stop me! This country thrives under the hand of one man’s leadership!” Mr Gorbin boasted.

“Is that your plan?” Mr Mkhize asked, sounding shocked.

“You see, my law enforcement officials are invisible, and with them, I have an unstoppable army,” Mr Gorbin responded. “I am going to topple the state and become the new President of this new born era. An era which is better than the one of Apartheid.”

“Gorbin, you know that is terrible,” Mr Mkhize said, sounding terrified.

“Terrible? Only for you,” Mr Gorbing responded, and then shot Mr Mkhize below of his stomach. Nobody heard the gunshot because his gun had a silencer on it. After shooting Mr Mkhize, he left him lying on the ground, but as he went outside, he saw Sheila.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

“I live here,” Sheila responded. “And you, Mr Gorbin?”

“I came to see a friend,” Mr Gorbin said.

“Okay,” Sheila responded, and they went their separate ways. “See you tomorrow at work,” she added, but he did not respond.

After walking away from Mr Gorbin, Sheila went upstairs to see Mr Mkhize because she wanted to discuss her suspicions about Mr Gorbin with him. She found Mr Mkhize’s hotel room door open, and when she knocked, she heard Mr Mkhize groaning in pain, so she went in.

“Doctor? What happened?” she asked. When she saw the wound, she took out one of the serum samples in order to inject him with it.

“No Sheila, don’t,” Mr Mkhize said. “Keep the serum a secret. Go and expose Gorbin’s evil plan with the data you took. You got it all, right?”

“Yes,” Sheila responded.

“Then go before it is too late,” Mr Mkhize said, begging her, then Sheila called an ambulance for him and left in a rush.
