Mr Mkhize sent Sheila to their basement where Mr Gorbin conducted his serum experiments with the company’s new recruits. When she got there, she analysed the animals which they had been using to test the drugs on. Mr Mkhize trusted her, so he sent her to perform an examination of the experiments.

“It is incredible, the serum totally gets rid of pain and emotions,” she said, sounding amazed.

“Yes, you destroy the subject the way you wish, but it does not feel anything,” Dr Kent responded. “It does not even die, unless you roughly damage its internal organs. However, after some time, it regenerates and becomes alive again. It is like it does not die at all. We will be making the world’s first superheroes.”

“Any side effects?” Sheila asked.

“That is the only issue,” Dr Kent responded. “After the regeneration process, our subjects cannot recover fully, and they become mentally unstable. Basically, they become children, and you need to teach them everything from the start. It is like they are born again, but as adults.”

“Oh, that is bad,” Sheila said.

“Yes, if we are able to correct that, we will start using it, and we will test it for the first time with humans,” Dr Kent responded.

“Oh,” Sheila said, sneaking behind the doctor’s computer and analysing the serum’s molecule structure.

After a while, Mr Gorbin came in with an ugly look on his face. When Sheila noticed him, she covered her steps and pretended to be inspecting to some plants.

“People! We are done for the day!” Mr Gorbin yelled. When he saw Sheila, he went to talk to Dr Kent about her. “I want you to keep an eagle’s eye on Sheila,” he said. “We cannot trust her.” After speaking to Dr Kent, he went to Sheila. “Sheila,” he said. “What are your thoughts on all of this?”

“It is great, Mr Gorbin,” she responded. “I do not know how a man with no knowledge in science came up with such an invention.”

“Yeah, you are free to go now,” Mr Gorbin said. “We are done for today.”

“See you tomorrow Doctor,” she responded.

Everyone went out, and Mr Gorbin stood alone, looking at everything. Out of all his creations, that was the best one. After a while, he switched off the lights. He then took a chair and sat in the dark. He held his chin and signed while thinking. Who would have known that the bright ideas of a great businessman were actually born in darkness.

***China Town, Johannesburg CBD, 10:00pm***

Two man met under a bridge. One came out of a black Audi, dressed in a black suite, and the other came out of an orange Ford Ranger. The man in the suit handed the other one papers without greeting him. He then went through them.

“You will execute it?” the man in the suit asked.

“You are planning on putting the country in lockdown, Mister?” the second man responded.

“I am giving out justice to those who are willing to fight for it, so?” the man in the suit asked.

“It will take a few days to organise a few men and get everyone to agree,” the second man responded. “However, it is not a big deal. I have done this for many years, even if it was not at this scale. It is easy for our people to fall for something like this, especially when you include a little cash and booze.”

“Take all the time you need,” the man in the suit said. “But you only get a few weeks to pull it off.”

“So, will you insure my family’s safety in all of this?” the other man asked.

“Just give me their names, and I will make sure every one of you gets a place in it,” the man in the suit promised.

“Okay, see you, Mister,” the other responded, and then left with the papers.
