It is strange how you never take notice of something until it happens to you. This is a story about a girl who became acquainted with Bipolar. Her name is Aden, and she was a loving, kind, and humorous person with a huge heart. She had no problem falling in love, because she always saw the good in people.

People that knew her believed she was not capable of getting mad. She would rather keep the peace than disturb it, and she always had a good sense of humour.

Adene’s story began when she met a man named Peter Franklin. He was friends with her younger brother, Steven. When Aden visited her mother and two brothers, Peter would always be there. At first, she did not notice him. She was just coming out of a relationship at the time, but then something happened. Aden got her old job back in her hometown, so she moved back in with her mother, meaning she saw Peter more.

Aden always walked home from work. One specific day, the rain was pouring down. Her middle brother, Ain, asked Peter if he could be so kind as to pick Aden up from work because of the weather.

Picking Aden up from work that day was just the beginning, though. Aden quickly fell for Peter’s charm. He always opened the car door for her and spoke to her like she was a queen. Steven did not like this one bit, and he warned his sister to stay away from Peter.

“He is not who he pretends to be,” Steven said.

“Well, he cannot be that bad if you are friends with him!” Aden responded.

Aden and Steven had developed a very close relationship. They had a bond that people admired, but that happened until Peter and Aden started dating. At first, they had kept it a secret, but as soon as Steven found out, he became furious! Aden could not take the tension between her and her little brother any longer, so she moved out, and she and Peter moved in together.

At first, everything went great. Aden loved Peter, but while they were living together, Peter lost his job. One afternoon, right after Aden got home, she realised that she had forgotten to buy milk. She did not think it was a big deal, until later that night, when she brought Peter some coffee. He yelled at her for bringing him black coffee.

“How do you expect me to drink this?” he asked, literally almost throwing the coffee at her.

Aden did not know what the mood swing was all about, and she did not understand his behaviour over something that little. She was tired from work, so she just apologised, took the cup of half spilled coffee and threw it down the drain. That night, Peter just held her like nothing happened.

“Maybe he just had a bad day,” Aden though, and with that, she fell asleep.

Tell us: Do you think Aden should have noticed the warning signs in Peter’s behaviour?
