Zinzi – Main character and Zonke’s sister

Zonke’s mother and the sisters were all witches.

Settings: Where is the story set? What words or phrases tell you about the location?

The story takes place in Constantia.

Your opinions: What was your favorite part and why? Did any parts make you laugh? Why? Did the story have a moral (a message)? Would you recommend this book to anyone?

The story was very funny and it has serious massage in it. It teaches us not to love for money because money is not that important. And tells us we must not lie about ourselves. Always be true to who we are. This story taught me that you should follow your heart; don’t let anyone discourage you or tell you what is good or bad for you. You should follow what you believe is good for yourself.

Rebecca Mwelase – For Love or Money by Jenny Robson

Plot: How does the story start? What happens in the middle? How does it end?

It starts at the hair salon; Zonke goes to the art exhibition and meets someone. They both lie to each other. Jabu dumps Zonke because she lied to him.

Characters: Who is in the story? Describe what they are like (personality and appearance). Did you like them?

Zonke is a cleaner and she pretends to be someone she is not. I did like the story and the characters.

Setting: Where is the story set? What words or phrases tell you about location?

Top-Knot hair salon is in Cape Town, Constantia, UCT, Groote Schuur hospital, Clipton.

Your opinion: What was your favorite part and why? Did any part make you laugh? Why? Did the story have a moral (massage)? Would you recommend this book to anyone?

I like the part where Zonke finds out that Jabu is not rich and that he lied to her, but she forgives him because she knows that she also has some confessions of her own. I laughed when Zonke saw Jabu put on his cap and she recognized it from the chauffeurs who would wait outside Top-Knot for their wealthy bosses.

Ayesha Parker – Courage like a lion by Jenny Robson

Plot: How does the story start? What happens in the middle? How does it end?

The story starts with the train screening. The middle starts with Ndaba making food for his brother and his sister. It ends with Ndaba kissing his girlfriend Masego and his sister giggling.

Characters: Who is in the story? Describe how they are (personality and appearance). Did you like them?

Ndaba – (main character) He feels discouraged to take care of his family alone. He’s a good person and has a good heart.

Settings: Where is the story set? What words or phrases tell you about the location?

It’s set in Jozi. The word “shack” tells me that it is in the location.

Your opinion: What are your favorite parts and why? Did any part make you laugh? Why? Did the story have a moral (a message)? Would you recommend this book to anyone?

My favorite part was when Ndaba realises what it means to have courage. None of the parts made me laugh. The message was, ‘don’t let anyone discourage you’. I would recommend this book to people who understand what people go through. I rate it 3/5.
