Yolanda had been sick for a couple of days and wasn’t attending classes. And when the headmaster found out about this he sent a doctor to check upon her. She was told she would get the results the following Monday.

Yolanda decided to go visit her parents for the weekends back in KZN because she was worried about her father. She told her boyfriend, Sphiwe, about her plans and Sphiwe gave her money for the journey.

But following day Yolanda appeared back at her school residence, unexpected.

“Haibo! Yolanda why are you back so soon?” Sharon asked.

“Last night I missed my bus as I was going to buy food for the journey. It was too late for me to come back so I slept at the bus station,” Yolanda explained.

“Haibo are you crazy? Why didn’t you call Sphiwe?” Zenande asked.

“I didn’t want to bother him. He has done enough by offering me money for the journey,” Yolanda said.

“I’m all set to go, Major will be here in less than a minute,” Zodwa said coming out of the room. She noticed Yolanda and greeted.

Truly, in less than a minute Major showed up.

“Just the person I was hoping to see!” Yolanda jumped to hug him.

“Are you not supposed to be in KZN?” Major asked softly only for Yolanda to hear, pushing her away.

“It’s a long story but I’m glad you are here for me,” Yolanda said with a smile.

“Uhm baby, do you know Yolanda from somewhere?” Zodwa asked curiously.

“Uhm yes, yes she used to be my school mate back in high school,” Major said which made Yolanda amazed.

“Sphiwe, why is Zodwa calling you baby?” Yolanda asked shocked.

“Uhm that’s how we call each other here,” Major said nervously.

“What is going on here? Why are you calling my boyfriend Sphiwe?” Zodwa asked Yolanda.

“Your boyfriend!” Yolanda exclaimed.

“Yes, this is Major, my boyfriend that I was telling you about,” Zodwa said.

“You mean my Sphiwe happens to be Major, the guy who dates five women all at the same time?” Yolanda shouted.
“What do you mean your Sphiwe? Is this the guy you have been going out with?” Zodwa asked concerned.

Yolanda sank down on the couch. Her heart was breaking. And at that moment, there was a knock on the door and Miss. Dick entered without invitation.

“Yolanda, the headmaster would like to see you. Now, please,” she announced.

Yolanda got up and walked out of the room. Her head was spinning, she didn’t know what she was called for. Major tried to walk out too but Zodwa pulled him back.

“Wena, you sit here and wait. We must resolve this. You blindfolded us and now you must explain,”

When Yolanda got to the headmaster’s office, the door was open. He knocked anyway, and entered.

“Please sit,” he said not even looking up from his desk.

“Yolanda, your test results are back, and they are not looking good girly,” he said, now looking at her. “You’re pregnant. And if that’s not enough, traces of dagga have been found in your blood!”

Yolanda somehow already knew all this. But she had prayed and hoped it wasn’t true, that it was the stress of her school work that made her sick. But blood results don’t lie. She didn’t respond. She didn’t even look at the headmaster, how could she. She stared blankly at the table and waited for the words that would end her future.

“Due to these facts, young lady, I’m sorry but you are expelled. With immediate effect. You are to return to your room, pack all your belongings and vacate the premises.” He stopped and looked at her, tears were falling down her face but no sound was coming out of her mouth.

“When you entered this school you were clean, which certainly means the merchant lives in this building. Who is your supplier?” he asked in a soft tone.

Yolanda knew she couldn’t bring the girls into this. They had given her the weed but she didn’t know where they got it from. The only other person who gave her weed was Sphiwe, or Major, whatever his name was. The man who was responsible for making her pregnant; the father of her child. She didn’t have the energy for that. So she just kept quiet.

The headmaster knew he would get nothing from Yolanda. At least having her expelled meant the others would learn from her misfortune and not dare do drugs in his school. Yolanda was dismissed and went back to her room.

She found Major and Zodwa arguing, Zenande and Sharon sitting like spectators watching a TV show. She went straight to the room and started packing. It took them a while to notice that she was back. They went to her and asked what was wrong.

“I’ve been expelled,” Yolanda said softly. The girls were all shocked and all asked questions at the same time. Bottom line they all wanted to know why. “I’m pregnant,” she gave them the short version.

The girls were shocked. They all went quiet for a while and said nothing. They all knew how important staying in school was for Yolanda, and now that her father was unemployed the hope seemed dim.

“What will you do babe?” Sharon asked the one thing they were all thinking.

“I’ll go home and tell my parents,”

“Yolanda, I’m sorry. But I want you to know that I will take care of the baby,” Major said feeling bad.

“Major, are you crazy?” Zodwa yelled. “How do you know that she’s carrying your child?” Zodwa was furious.

“I know that for sure because she was still a virgin when I slept with her, unlike the rest of you,” Major said, he was annoyed with Zodwa.

Yolanda had told him about Zodwa and how cruel she had been. Major liked Yolanda more than all the other girls. But he was a player and leopards never changed their stripes.

“I’ll take care of you, Yolanda, and the child, it’s the least I can do,” Major said.

Yolanda said nothing, it was like she wasn’t even there. She just sat there on her bed, with Sharon on her left and Zenande on her right.

“Then what will happen to me? What will happen to The Major Galz?” Zodwa nagged.

Major didn’t answer her, the last thing he needed was to deal with this now. At least when Yolanda was away he could sort out his girls. They were easy, he knew how to handle them. Just not now.

Major started helping Yolanda with her things, taking them to his car. So did Sharon and Zenande. Zodwa went into her bed and cried.
