If I don’t write to empty my mind, then I go mad.
“The morning sounds so dull without the birds, or maybe my ears are deceiving me. It ain’t normal for this to happen. I wonder why,” I thought. Then I extended my hand in order to open the curtain, and to my surprise, it was raining. “Damn, my favourite weather.”
While I was looking outside my window, my phone rang, and I wondered who it was. “Reminder: it’s Craig’s birthday.” The words on the screen said.
Finally, the day had come. But wait, before we go anywhere, let me introduce you: Craig is my ex-boyfriend. He was quite a pain in the ass, but he was worth it. We both had the same attitude, and maybe that was why our thing didn’t work out. But we tried, though.
Craig and I met in high school, on a rainy day, and maybe that should explain why I loved him so much. He was shy at first, and trust me, I fell for that. Because he was already identified as the school’s most handsome guy, I felt the need to get close to him because, I won’t lie to you, there isn’t anything I love more than attention.
I didn’t have a start-up plan when we first met, but I knew that him and I being together had to be possible one way or the other. So, as a result of my belief, I signed up for the same sporting code as he did after checking his name on the coach’s list, and that meant that we had to be together every Wednesday afternoon. That way, I could do anything I wanted to get closer to him.
Bit by bit, it became my mission for me to get close to Craig until one day I spilled out my mission to my best-friend, Jaden. After I did so, Jaden locked up all the dreams I had about Craig and I being together in a cage and threw away the key. By that I mean that he exposed Craig to me, and told me how his family members were all like Gods in the township.
Jaden told me about how Craig’s family stole cars, bombed banks, and did all those things. He told me they were certainly not the type of people I wanted to get involved with, and trust me on that one, I believed him. I immediately got scared after he told me, and I told myself my mission was over.
From that point on, there was no more Craig in my life. A day went by, and after that, I already felt like I couldn’t do it anymore. I tried letting go, but bit by bit, everything came running down in my stomach. “I think I like him,” I whispered to myself.
While thinking, my phone vibrated, and it was a text. “Hey beautiful,” the text said, and I quickly picked up my phone. It was from a new contact, and after reading the message, I texted back and we had a conversation. It was a blast, and after a while, I realised that I didn’t bother asking who it was, and before I could, he was already off.
After the guy no longer texted back, I immediately deleted the message where I asked who it was, and let the conversation continue the following day. Out of the blue, the guy I was texting started asking me why I wouldn’t let him in. I got confused and wondered how on earth could I let someone in, and what he even meant by it?
“I meant, in a relationship,” he clarified.
“Ooh no, I’m sorry, I’m actually in a relationship with someone, and I doubt that would be possible,” I responded. “I mean, it’s already hectic with one person, so I don’t think I can manage two.”
“Can we meet at least?” he asked.
“No biggie,” I responded. “Uhm, come to my crib tomorrow afternoon, and call me when you get here.” I then immediately sent him the details and waited for him to text back.
