Peter and Roxanne first met each other in school. Peter had always seen this beautiful coloured girl walking with her friends during breaks. He had a thing for Roxanne which he believed was love, but he was scared to go and call her in front of her friends because they looked like judgmental people to him. They looked like the kind of girls who don’t like school boys and wanted people who rolled in beautiful cars or cheese boys.

Peter couldn’t sleep. Every day when he woke up to go to school, he was becoming more concerned because of Roxanne, a girl he hadn’t even approached or greeted. Peter was always thinking that if he didn’t approach her, then someone braver would do it first, and that would be game over for him. He knew this, but he was just too scared.

After school, Peter was trying to finalise his decision to act, because he was running out of time. It had only been a year since Roxanne had arrived at Overport Secondary so she was not too popular. But her friends thought they were the top hotties and wanted Roxanne to join the bad high school crew.

On his way home, Peter made his decision. He decided to go to her the next day and really this time, whether it was raining or hot, express his feelings for her while she still had low self-esteem and wasn’t popular.

He would express them while she hadn’t praised herself too much as hot before many school guys had exaggerated her beauty.

“This will give me a chance because she’s still new. She won’t look down on me.” Peter believed that the problem with guys is that they praise girls they don’t even love, and this gave a disadvantage to guys who did love those praised peeps. Girls would want more when they knew their status. They would want more of us and from us, more money and charm. To Peter, girls were all about this, so guys must watch what they say. When Peter arrived home, he did his usual chores and then gave himself more time, thinking about his approach technique.

Peter wrote a love letter and put it in his grey-pocket. He took an hour writing it. Peter knew that this was an old method of approach, and if his friends were there and knew about it, they would crawl like snails, laughing and teasing him about it. This had to be discreet. He believed they’d never know. They didn’t even know he wanted this girl. When it came to girls and relationships, Peter was very introverted. He just didn’t share his feeling with anyone, because they didn’t understand him. They all thought that he was scared of girls, except Paul, who always supported him.

At school, break time arrived and Peter had to act and be a man. He had to face his fears. There she was. Peter tried to run after her while she was still alone. The break had just started and Roxanne hadn’t met up with her friends yet. This was his one and only chance.
