Bophelo was sentenced to 28 years in prison. Her baby was obviously going to be delivered in prison because that was her new home. When she was six months pregnant, and had received no visitors from day one, she was called in by some woman who wanted to see her. It was Maria, and she had something to tell Bophelo. But, in order for her to break the news to her daughter, she had to first gather all the strength. It was a life changing day for Botshelo, mainly because she had never thought the day would ever come.

When Botshelo got to the meeting room, she saw the woman. Her knees felt weak for no reason, but she ignored the feeling. She then sat down and looked at Maria. “Who on earth is this?” she asked herself.

After Botshelo sat dawn, Maria couldn’t utter a single word, so she cried instead. Biggie looked carefully at the crying woman, then she remembered that she had once seen her picture in John’s wallet. John was the man that used to rape her every single day. A million unanswered questions came to her mind after that, but she chose to remain calm.

Maria, on the other hand, continued feasting her eyes with Biggie because she had not seen her in eighteen years. Her big eyes and small lips reminded her of when she delivered her. She then asked Bophelo if she knew a man called John Mazibuko. The lioness almost struck her for mentioning the name of the monster that had turned her into the person she was that day, but she still remained calm and answered “Yes”.

Before going to see Bophelo, Maria had run to John to find out if he knew what their daughter had done. John was Bophelo’s father, and ever since hearing what his daughter had done, he lived in fear because he knew he was next. When Maria approached him, he begged her not to go to the prison to tell her the truth, but Maria just could not live a lie anymore because she was dying.

After sitting there for a while, Maria told Bophelo that she had gotten pregnant with her while she was still in school, and that, even though her father had gone with her for check-ups, he had been very abusive to her throughout her pregnancy. She then continued by telling her how and where she had left her. According to her, the hospital had managed to easily locate Bophelo’s father because they had used his address and cell-phone numbers there, and after Maria had run away from her baby, they called him to come to Bophelo’s rescue.

After picking up Bophelo from the hospital, John had been angry at her Maria, and poor Biggie took the punishment on her behalf. John would always tell Bophelo that she tasted exactly like her mother, but she did not understand what that meant.

After hearing the news from Maria, Bophelo went deaf for a second. “It can’t be,” she said quietly with teary eyes. She then screamed, and everyone in the room became shocked because she had never cried in prison before, even when her inmates beat her. But at that moment, her cry was so loud that the only thing that could limit her voice was the sky.

Maria thought her daughter was crying because she had abandoned her, but little did she know that Bophelo had paid for her sins. Her very own father had replaced her mother with her, then raped her, and Maria became very confused when Bophelo shouted what her father used to do to her with tears flooding her face.

It was all too much for Maria because she had a heart disease, so she ran out of the visitor’s area and went straight to John. He didn’t deny anything.

“What did you think when you left me just like that? I’m a man, and I have needs. She was here, and you were not. She tastes exactly like you, anyway. She’s your product, isn’t she? So she’s you and you’re her,” John said.

After talking to John, Maria went home, told her family the truth, and said she needed to rest. Her heart stopped while she was resting, and she died in her sleep. She had left her details at the prison so they could call her anytime, and she had also given her family all the information on Bophelo and where she was.

When Bophelo’s maternal family called the prison to inform them what had happened, they told Bophelo, but she didn’t feel any pain. The woman that had died was a stranger to her, and nothing else. All she wanted to do was get out of prison, and kill her father the same way he had killed her innocence. She then gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and named “Omogolo”, meaning “God is great”.
