Yes I am black
But my brain isn’t
I’m black but my blood isn’t
Black is my skin colour not my attitude
Not my character
Not my gender
Not my past, present or future
Don’t look at me based on the colour of my skin
I am way beyond my skin colour
And you are way behind the times
You don’t know me enough to say
“Black people are like that anyways”
You don’t know me enough to say in my face
“You people”
“Your kind”
Are not welcome in certain places or certain races
I have a blood red like yours
I have a brain just like you
My skin colour is not my limitation
I can do whatever I want
Because I am me
And I am not my skin colour
