INT: Morning, Palesa and Karabo are in a school bus. 07:30
Karabo is reading a novel while Palesa is browsing social media – stalking Themba and Gugulethu
PALESA: Karabo look at this place that Thembalethu visited this weekend. It’s so beautiful!!!
Palesa showing Karabo the pictures, but Karabo is uninterested, she is fixed on the novel that she’s reading
KARABO: (sarcastic) Yes, it is beautiful.
PALESA: (annoyed) but you didn’t even look at the pictures.
KARABO: I guess I trust your word, if you say it’s beautiful, it is probably beautiful.
PALESA: Come on Karabo, pretty please, take a look.
KARABO: (heavy sigh) okay (Karabo slowly closes the novel she’s reading) let’s see (she takes Palesa’s phone and looks at the picture). It is beautiful, probably expensive too.
PALESA: (she lights up) I know right, I checked the prices online and tjo it costs an arm and a leg, but luckily for them, it didn’t, they were sponsored. All their expenses were paid for and all they had to do was post pictures of the place, that’s it
KARABO: mmm mmm mmm, it must be nice to be them, what a lifestyle
PALESA: I know girl, (looks up, closes her eyes and smiles) good Lord what I would to have such a lifestyle.
KARABO: Imagine if you were Thembalethu’s child, you’d be living the best life ever.
PALESA: (dreamy) Yeah, if only.
KARABO: But then again it wouldn’t be that nice, I mean you’d be their enemy’s bait.
PALESA: I doubt.
KARABO: Really, haven’t you learnt a thing or two from movies, it’s always the bad man’s children who pay for their parent’s sins. They get kidnapped and their lives are threatened if the parents don’t hold up their end of deal.
PALESA: (opens her eyes, tilt her head toward Karabo’s face) You are talking like they are a part of a gang or drug lords.
KARABO: Sometimes the way they move, and the people we have seen them hang around with, the Cinderella slipper fits perfectly.
PALESA: Naah, that’s not their brand.
KARABO: Don’t think of me as gullible Palesa, we both know there’s something off about them, like the sudden disappearance of that lady who exposed them, their connection with Devator -the gang ring leader-, I could go on.
PALESA: Just because the water looks like vinegar it doesn’t mean it is vinegar.
KARABO: But what if the water is vinegar, just that you haven’t tasted it yet?
PALESA: Mxm!
Palesa looks up, closes her eyes and continues day dreaming
Long pause
KARABO: Uhm, Palase sorry but I have to bust your fantasy bubble, are you done with the Physics assignment?
PALESA: (snaps out of her fantasy) Oh boy…….
KARABO: I’ll take that as a “no”.
PALESA: When is it due?
KARABO: Today!!
