The next day Linda sees Candice and Tshepo standing at the door of their classroom, and she quickly decides to confront Candice.

LINDA: So our friendship meant nothing to you?

Candice ignores her and continues speaking to Tshepo as if Linda isn’t there.

TSHEPO: Howzit Linda?

LINDA: (staring blankly at Candice) I know you’re not going to act like you don’t see me standing here.

CANDICE: Can’t you see I’m busy?

TSHEPO: I’ll go holla at the boys if you need some time to talk.

CANDICE: Nah, I don’t wanna talk to her. She can see that.

LINDA: Candice, I know you were offended about what I said, but you took it too far.

CANDICE: You must have some nerve to think I made that Facebook post. I have better things to do with my time.

Candice turns to face Linda. She folds her arms and raises an eyebrow.

LINDA: (softly) No one knew about it except you.

CANDICE: Well, it wasn’t me.

LINDA: (sighs) I know you can be vindictive.

CANDICE: (laughs) We’ve been friends for 12 years, you dummy! I wouldn’t expose something that personal, no matter how vindictive you think I can get.

LINDA: (getting annoyed) Was it Tshepo then? I know you tell him everything.

TSHEPO: Don’t drag me into ish, bro. This is not my mess.

CANDICE: Even if I did it, why does it matter? It’s not like those were lies.

In irritation, Linda slaps Candice. Candice reacts by grabbing Linda by the collar of her jersey. Tshepo pulls them apart before anyone can see what’s happening.

LINDA: (panting) You’re an asshole! I trusted you.

CANDICE: (panting) You’ll pay for this Linda. You can’t just Klap me around.

TSHEPO: (hisses) You two have to calm down. We don’t need another scandal. If the principal finds out about this, you’re both getting expelled.

CANDICE: Lenja (this dog) just slapped me.

TSHEPO: Linda, maybe you need to leave.

LINDA: I’m not going anywhere until she tells me why she did what she did.

CANDICE: (shouting) How many times do I have to tell you that it wasn’t me?

LINDA: Candice, I’m not a fool.

CANDICE: Well, since I’m exposing secrets, maybe I should tell everyone how you got pregnant in the first place.

LINDA: (Gasps) Don’t you dare!

CANDICE: (smirks) Maybe I should tell everyone how you got invited to a college party, then got too drunk to even remember who you spread your legs for.

TSHEPO: (chimes in) Babe stop.

LINDA: (gasps) That’s a low blow, Candice, even for you.

Candice instantly regrets what she said and tries to reach her arm out to Linda, but Linda takes a step back.

CANDICE: Linda, I didn’t mean that. I’m sorry.

LINDA: Say it with your chest, Candice.

CANDICE: Linda, it just came out. I really didn’t mean it.

LINDA: Just in case it wasn’t clear before, our friendship is done.

Linda walks away from them while Candice stands there dumbfounded.
