It was on the 3rd August 2019, I was at home. I woke up and went to my mom’s room to greet her. When I got there, there was no one in the room. Mother’s ancestral clock was on table, it was too early so I was not paying attention while walking.

As I was walking, my hand accidentally pushed the clock down. The glasses of the clock broke into many pieces. I woke up completely so afraid after breaking the clock so I went back to my room. I took a bath and went to sit outside as if nothing happened. After some time, I saw my mom going inside the house to her room and I greeted her like always with a million dollar smile.

Mother found her clock broken on the ground in her room; I heard a lot of noise coming from her room. I knew very well what the cause of the noise was. That’s when I went inside but to my greatest surprise my cousin was holding the clock’s broken glasses, probably wondering how the clock broke. Mother went bananas upon seeing him holding broken glasses, she thought he was the one who broke the clock. She got closer to him and slapped him very hard. I felt sorry for him.

He was a bit confused as if he saw stars in broad day light. He started crying and tried to defend himself but mother was not ready to listen to any words from him. I was still quiet watching all the drama. Mother called the clock repairer. He came and took the clock with him; my cousin got the punishment of not eating the whole day.

Mother was hurt because the clock was very important to her, she got it from her mother who was no longer alive. Around 13:00 at lunchtime, my cousin was still crying his eyes out. My mom and I were sitting on the dining table eating, while my cousin was sitting on the floor. I could not bear it anymore so I told my mom the truth and she slapped me twice. She apologised to my cousin and gave him food and took my food away. She was really disappointed by my actions. My cousin said that he was proud of me because, it’s better late than never. The clock repairer came back with the clock fixed. My mother was better at that time and she forgave me.

Although I didn’t want to admit it I knew that it was my fault so I had to tell the truth because no matter what mistake you make, you must always admit it to avoid getting innocent people punished.
