I was sitting in my shack playing a video game when I receive a call from my football coach.
“Son you are projected as one the best under 18s, all you need to do is to play the next ten games, football coaches all around the country will be there to witness your magic, and I can guarantee you will be selected by one of the top teams in South Africa,” the coach said.
After that call I quickly rushed into my mother’s hut and said, “Mommy our life is about to change. This life we are living is about to be something of the past.”
I left my mother without even giving her the chance to respond. Little did I know that my life was going to change for good.
I quickly ran to the practicing ground I trained and trained very hard. Training alone I wanted to be the best so that no one could compare with me in the whole club. I would train early in the morning and then I would come back again when the whole club was training and make sure I left later than anyone else.
The coach noticed and said, “Son, keep it up if you continue this way you will be a multi-millionaire. The next Doctor Khumalo of this world.”
That motivated me even more.
My home was situated far from the ground, when you were going to the field you had to pass through a dark forest. Although deep down I knew how dangerous that forest was, it did not matter to me I would pass through the forest every morning alone and with my teammates later.
I continued to do the self-training up until the first match day came. We played the game I was highly motivated I even created an assist for my teammate, and we won the game very convincingly at 3-0.
Next weekend came when we were about to play the second match, I saw the likes of Dan Malesela and Ace Khuse coming from the bus. I felt that I was dreaming. We played the match, a highly motivated me scored three goals in the match and we won 3-1.
After the game the Dr Ace Khuse asked me for my phone number.
“Son, after you have finished your league the contract is waiting for you at Kaizer Chiefs,” he said.
I couldn’t believe what had just happened. I quickly ran home and told my mother the news.
“Congratulations son, keep up the good work,” she said.
